From warehouse to design destination. In Älmhult, Sweden, Cobe will transform a former IKEA warehouse into the new home of Museum of Furniture Studies, @mobeldesignmuseum . By opening the façade, preserving the industrial structure, and inserting a timber structure, the project will turn closed storage into an open, public space for design. A central “canyon” and an accessible open collection of 800+ design objects will invite visitors to explore, learn, and engage. Opening in early 2027. Take a closer look via @dezeen - link in bio. #museumoffurniturestudies #mofs #älmhult #designdestination

Congratulations to our industrial PhD researcher, Simon Sjökvist, on the successful defence of his industrial PhD: Redevelopment, Replacement, Repair. His dissertation critically examines contemporary urban redevelopment practices in Copenhagen, exploring two key questions: The first concerns redevelopment as both a historical and contemporary approach to planning, urban design, and architecture, and its relationship to broader urban and environmental agendas. The second explores the potential for, and barriers to, expanding preservation, reuse, and repair within redevelopment, as shaped by changing practices of construction, demolition, replacement, and reuse in the context of the ecological crises. At a time when the built environment must rethink its impact, the research offers valuable perspectives on how we move forward more responsibly. This industrial PhD is the result of a strong collaboration between Cobe, @kglakademi , @aalborguni and @ethzurich , and has been supervised by Professor Dean Simpson, and Cobe’s Head of Sustainability Jacob Blak, along with co-supervisors Professor Jonna Majgaard, Professor Harpa Birgisdottir, and Professor Silke Lanbenberg. Thank you to @innovationsfonden for supporting the project. Graphic design by @studio.atlant .

Our visitor center at the @kyffhaeuser_stiftung in Germany is under construction. A modular, locally sourced mass timber structure will form the framework of the building, marking the entrance to the Kyffhäuser Monument and one of Germany’s most iconic historic sites, @kyffhaeuser.denkmal . Set for completion later this year.

Everyday life in Nordhavn. Morning swims, harbor walks, kids playing on the quay - the moments that now define Nordhavn. Since 2008, Cobe has been part of transforming this former industrial harbor in Copenhagen into an urban district where people live, work, and spend time by the water. What was once a working port is now a growing part of Copenhagen - full of daily life and still evolving. Last week, the project was honored with a MIPIM Award for Best Urban Regeneration Project. Thank you to our client CPH City & Port Development and our long-time collaborators @sleth_architects , Polyform, and @rambolldenmark - and to @mipim_world and the jury for this recognition. New Cobe Note: The Gift of Time. How do you plan an urban district for the next 50 years without closing off opportunities? Nordhavn in Copenhagen shows how structure plans can balance long-term visions with flexibility, creating frameworks that allow future generations to shape the city in response to changing needs, technologies, and knowledge. In this Cobe Note, Rune Boserup, Urban Director at Cobe, reflects on how urban planning is fundamentally about time: setting strong frameworks while leaving space for future generations to adapt, evolve, and shape the city on their own terms. Zooming in on @voressted_realdania . Designed to maximize community while minimizing environmental impact, the pavilions are built primarily from recycled and biogenic materials. The load-bearing structure is crafted from reclaimed timber sourced from demolished buildings, and the roof is clad with reused fiber-cement panels from former mink farms. Here seen in Gellerup, Aarhus - Denmark’s largest social housing area - where a garden community now has a shared place to meet. The pavilions are designed by @cobearchitects , @revaerk_arkitektur , @archival_studies , @pihlmann , @rumgehoer , and @studioxyz_ for @realdaniadk . Images: @francisco_tirado

Another community pavilion has just opened in the Danish city of Aarhus. Located next to @aarchdk , the cultural centre @godsbanen , and former freight train halls, a local book club now has a place to meet. Designed as a small, poetic clubhouse for young people, the pavilion creates space for reading and writing together, inviting authors, hosting readings, and letting ideas grow. The pavilion is part of @realdaniadk ’s nationwide initiative, @voressted_realdania , celebrating its 25-year anniversary, bringing 150 new meeting places to voluntary organizations and communities across Denmark. Designed by @cobearchitects in collaboration with @revaerk_arkitektur , @archival_studies , @pihlmann , @rumgehoer , and @studioxyz_ . Images: @francisco_tirado
