Where does art become valuable? Which environments increase or decrease it’s worth? I choose to paste these prints up in the same communities I captured the photos in – on the barrier walls of the construction in the photo, across the street from the apartment in the photo.
If you know these areas, you can understand that the photos themselves are a commentary on gentrification too. I have been thinking about the (lack of) cultural preservation these past few years. Location based documentation is the strongest theme of my art. I haven’t explained much of why I have been wheatpasting my art these past 2 years, I was just hoping the people that it resonated with would understand. This is also why I put tags up with big big prices beside the posters. This is my gallery. It has the same value because it’s here. It didn’t need to go anywhere else to become more. My goal with putting my art up was for someone to steal it and cherish it. I think someone tried to steal a print recently. So mission accomplished. I hope they scanned the qr code. What I didn’t predict was for people to add their own touch to it by tagging over and around the prints. The evolution of each print has been so different and I’m so glad it’s working out how I wanted it to. I feel so deeply about this, I hope this helped you to understand how much wheatpasting my art means to me.
Let me know if you want your own print. Check out my website in my bio, send me an email. Let me know what you think and please go see them inna real life.
