KYLYN returns! Hot dog! The KYLYN AAPI Arts and Culture Festival is a multi-day inaugural arts festival that aims to enrich the cultural life of Ann Arbor and establish the city as a central hub for presenting the cutting edge of Midwest AAPI Arts and Culture. Ann Arbor! Tonight! 6:30PM! KYLYN AAPI Arts + Culture Festival presents STEADY FLIGHT CIRCLE @steadyflightcircle Ann Arbor Downtown Library: Lower Level Program Room Thomas Xu is a producer and DJ who creates music that dissolves boundaries between genres and strangers. He debuted with Roots That Talk, a split EP with Julion De’Angelo, released on Theo Parrish’s label Sound Signature. His own label, Steady Flight Circle, champions weird and honest music. Xu recently released his new album, The Heart of the Matter, which contains transpositions from leaving Detroit in 2020 to Thomas Xu’s return from Chicago in 2024. In its intention, Xu’s music is in gratitude for the village and ancestry that supported and enabled Thomas’s existence. The conceptual part of my practice, and love of repetition led me to make artist books. Because of this I’ve participated in art book fairs since 2015. I love them. Now I have made one: Paper Paper! Every fair is distinct and unique, and at each fair I have met such interesting people, many of whom have become close friends and collaborators. Art book fairs are an adventure, each with its own flavor: a mash up of paper nerds, risograph masters, deep thinkers, sensitive designers, political activists, visionaries/social deviants, young experimenters, powerful collectives, craftspeople, tinkerers with old machines, poets and witnesses… they are for me a place where we find each other, support and share meaning and time. I can’t wait to see *why* we come together this time and how we will change one another and everything through this act of community, voice, indie publication, the word/image in print. I am grateful to @clustermuseum for hosting us. Also to @aadl for the button making station they are hosting on saturday. To volunteers (come volunteer! Our Zine Swap station widens the conversation further and invites you to spring clean your zine and small run artist book collection, and throw your own work into the mix. like a clothing swap you leave and you can take small run art press books and zines :) We are pleased to have people from all over the midwest and several excellent collectives from Detroit and Chicago and Milwaukee including @halfletterpress , @bulk_space , and mcsweeneys founded by Dave Eggers in 1998 @mcswys and all the fine tablers taking a chance with Paper Paper this year! Shown here you see some work from. @pitymilk_press , @halfletterpress , @publiccollectorslibrary and last images are @hannahburrstudio books and found paper journals. Against my better judgment, I have now organized such a fair called paper paper art book fair, that will be held May 2 and 3 in Ann Arbor @clustermuseum 307 N.Main St. sat 11-5, Sun 12-5. parking is in the neighborhood and the ann/ashley parking garage across the street is a fancier option (from out of town, avoid exits along 94, better to come by 23 to avoid stadium traffic! #papernerd #riso

🌟POETRY EVENT!🌟 When: Friday, April 24th and Saturday, April 25th Thea Eck of @clustermuseum , Cam Finch of PoetTreeTown, and poet Katie Hartsock have collaborated to create a self-guided Ekphrastic Poetry Walk that celebrates the power of the arts through the words of poets. "Ekphrastic" references writing inspired by a work of art. The Ekphrastic Poetry Walk includes an accompanying poetry guidebook, where 14 local poets chose art pieces from 3 Kerrytown art galleries (Cluster, WSG, and Gutman Gallery) and wrote inspired poems. The easy walking tour takes about 45 minutes to complete and the poetry guidebook can be purchased at any of the 3 galleries: $5 for students and sliding scale donation of $8-$15 for all others. It is a beautiful keepsake that includes the 14 poems in tandem with the artwork. Guest curated by writers Cam Finch & Katie Hartsock. Featuring 14 writers: James Barton, Scott Beal, Forrest Hejkal, T Hetzel, Frances Kai-Hwa Wang, Saba Keramati, Rachel Nelson, Isaac Pickell, Onna Solomon, Ellen Stone, Jennifer Sperry Steinorth, Lily Tobias and guest curators Cam Finch and Katie Hartsock. Then at 1pm-2:30pm on Saturday, April 25, a selection of the Ekphrastic Poetry Walk poets will perform their work in front of their chosen artwork. Choose to walk to each location as a group or meet us there. Author Reading Schedule: 1pm at CLUSTER Museum on N. Main St. 1:30pm at WSG Gallery on Ann St. 2pm at Gutman Gallery on 4th Ave.
