Pizza, dancing, friends, dogs, punk rock, books, flowers, romance and the autumn sunshine. A birthday filled with all of the people and things I love. I see what you’re doing, 40.

One week ago I won the lottery. There was, of course, both pizza and poetry, as ever there will be. I love you, @scgriffin7 .

My favorite DC kind of day filled with artists, writers, and musicians, and the amazing people and places that create space for them to come together.

Sonder and I had a wonderful experience with the lovely and talented @catmac_studios in @portraitclub_studio ’s new space in Baltimore. Cat worked magic with the camera and Sonder, well, he tolerated our antics 🐶. #AdventuresinSonderland

One week ago today I stood in front of colleagues, friends, and family to defend my doctoral dissertation. There are moments in life when you realize how lucky you are — this was one of them. A hell of a lot of love, sweat, tears, and hard work went into achieving this goal, which really isn’t about three letters, but the evolution of a person…. and some dogs :) It feels incredible to now be officially done with this chapter, and I’m so grateful for all of the support I’ve been given these past several years. Here’s to the wild things.

There is something magical happening in my home — the plants are flirting with me. 1. I brought some stems of pussywillow home from Trader Joe’s several weeks ago. One has taken root in the vase, its tiny yellow trumpets blooming from the fuzz. I’ve never known them to be anything but ornamental. 2. I got this purple silver (wandering Jew) at Longwood Gardens 12 years ago. It has moved with me from home to home, propagated more times than I can count, and its cuttings are my favorite to share. I have never seen it bloom; I didn’t even know it could. Signs of life. Dormant things are blossoming.
