CLOUDS CORTINA — Project Presentation Monday, 9 February | 7pm 📍 Libreria Sovilla, Cortina d’Ampezzo We’re opening the doors to CLOUDS CORTINA: an evening dedicated to the presentation of the project by @philippmessner within the framework of the Cultural Olympiad programme. The event includes an introduction to CLOUDS, followed by a talk with Gianluca D’Incà Levis, director of Dolomiti Contemporanee. Selected works and materials related to the project will be on view throughout the space. CLOUDS is a large-scale, site-specific art project that reflects on the relationship between landscape, technology, and perception in the Alpine environment — questioning ideas of nature, artificiality, and intervention. The evening will conclude with an informal aperitivo, a chance to get to know the project and the people behind it. During the performative action of 2013-14 with coloured artificial snow, Philipp invited the artist Walter to accompany him to the Dolomites and document the work. This project resulted in a series of photographic works in collaboration with the renowned Italian photographer Walter Niedermayr. The multi-part photographic works (photographs and light boxes) show concrete motifs such as landscapes, snow or trees, but also abstract colour fields, colour gradients and gaps that open up a hyper-surrealistic, almost virtual visual level. Clouds. In winter 2014, Philipp Messner experimented for the first time with colored artificial snow in the Dolomite Alps, Italy. From this public snow action a series of public projects started. The result was a landscapes that open a hypersurreal - almost virtual visual level. In May and December 2024, After the first action in the Dolomites 2013 another performative snow action was launched, this time back in Cortina. The simple addition of food colouring reveals a colour field painting that simultaneously references its own artificial nature.
