We will be showing the new Zagreb/Goddard edit @flatpackfestival @frictionarts and @icalondon this week. The new edit incorporates footage from Mark Fisher’s ‘Slow Cancellation of the Future’ lecture @mamazagreb . This came about as a third edit when Tariq Goddard suggested that ‘there needed to be a bit more Mark in this bit’. Sophie and Simon were reluctant to open up an edit, but were humbled in the face of such a formidable editor, who of course knew Mark so well. #markfisher #markfisherdilm

Alice in Wonderland FFS is an emergent and generative artwork by Close and Remote. It is shaped around three reference points - Lewis Carroll’s original book, Mark Fisher’s Post Capitalist Desire lectures and the lost futures of late Millennials and Gen Z. There are 5 Alices from around Gross Brittania. Each Alice is very different but they all share the common trait of curiosity about the worlds they encounter. As the Alices progress through Wonderland, they engage with different systems of regulation, denial or control. They face adversity, but nonetheless remain tenacious in the face of it. The picture of Gross Britannia is a key aspect of the film. This is a country in 2026 that has been hollowed out by austerity politics, with many communities abandoned to the whims of free market failure. A caustic undertow of popular far right association underpins all of the landscapes. Britannia has become an unequal country, many promises were made, but mostly never fulfilled. The film is inside an artwork made by Close and Remote. The film can exist because of the artwork and is the thing that is ‘being made’. Ultimately, the film provides a record of a process, while the artwork is situated more broadly. The artwork is a form of mass reflection. It shows social realism, as if it is magical realism. @closeandremote
