"Our work has been grounded in the unwavering commitment to dismantling systemic barriers that prevent artivists from fully mobilizing their talents toward transformative social change. We believe artivists deserve access to essential resources, including funding, to amplify their work, educate communities, and advocate for issues at the core of their identities as DMV-based creatives. By establishing pathways to economic sustainability for these artivists, their families, and their communities, we envision a future where their impact is not hindered by financial constraints but fueled by equitable support with an inclusive table built for and by them." I received this plaque yesterday after speaking at the Reset + Reboot Youth Conference. It was special to me because I spoke at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Hahnville, LA which was pastored by my Great Grandfather when I was a child. It was cool to share words of wisdom to the youth and see the next generation share their talents!
Growing up watching The Cosby Show as a kid in Seattle, Theo was our big brother — cool, funny, and someone we all looked up to.
Years later, I had the honor of crossing paths with Malcolm-Jamal Warner — and this moment right here is one I’ll never forget. He brought that same warmth, wisdom, and wit to every space he entered.
Big love to my brother @weusib333 for making that happen. Truly grateful to you for that.
Rest in power, Malcolm. Thank you for everything you shared with the world.
