When a particularly interesting client – one who wants their home to mirror their personality – lands on an interior designer’s desk, it’s a challenge they relish. For designer Clive Lonstein (@clivelonstein ), that client was an artist, philanthropist and business executive who founded a private equity firm focused on female-led ventures. She and her partner commissioned a residence in Nassau, the Bahamas. Project architect Arthur Chabon describes their clients as ‘possessing a fascinating and stimulating combination of deep spirituality and midwestern sensibility, of romantic artistic expression and common sense’. This is reflected in a home that blends design-forward eclecticism with tropical-inspired beauty, resulting in a space that feels both curated and unexpected. Let’s step inside this gorgeous home. 📷: @douglasfriedman Styling: @martinrbourne 🖊️: @annaa.solomon

BREAKING BARRIERS. In my home, openings to the outdoor terrace are carefully positioned to draw the exterior inward, softening the threshold between inside and out. The apartment is defined not only by its boundaries, but by its relationship to what lies beyond, where interior and exterior are experienced as part of a continuous whole. CL

PATTERN-CLAD. The fourth bedroom in this Southampton guest cottage is papered in a floral wall covering, its drapery cut from the same fabric to achieve a continuation of thought between the materials. Two twin beds dressed in slipcovers can be pushed together to form a king, a subtle practicality embedded in the room’s more layered character. The pattern feels unexpected for a Southampton beach house, introducing a textural, enveloping experience that sits between coastal ease and European country cottage reference. FOLIAGE FRAMED. The dining area occupies a corner of this open living space in Southampton; its position is defined less by walls than by light. A white bamboo table paired with vintage Fritz Hansen chairs sits at the intersection of two window walls. Slip-covered benches beneath each window double as seating or surfaces for books, upholstered in the same linen as the drapery but reversed, a subtle material connection that rewards closer attention. A PLACE FOR REPRIEVE. A window seat was carved into this Southampton primary bedroom, marking one of the few modifications to the original architecture of the home. Above, the original pitched ceiling of the home was preserved, for both history and grandeur’s sake. A polished mahogany wardrobe and vintage chest at the foot of the bed bring the same layered, antique quality found throughout the house, while grass cloth wall covering adds texture and warmth to a room that, like the rest of the cottage, feels shaded and cool despite its material richness. Introducing three new works to the GLASS Collection by Clive Lonstein Coffee table, bench and table lamp Year 2026 Bronze Topaz Cast Glass America Architect and designer Clive Lonstein brings a refined sensibility to material and form, blending the precision of architecture with the poetics of light and texture. Guided by a minimalist philosophy rooted in richness and restraint, his work reflects a deep appreciation for timeless materials and the quiet power of design. Launched in 2025, Lonstein’s Glass collection introduced a refined approach to custom cast glass furniture. The collection is a carefully curated exploration of materiality, form, and function. Lonstein’s design philosophy is rooted in the idea of creating classic, durable pieces that resonate across different aesthetics. The organic quality, timeless durability, and versatility of glass allows each work to seamlessly enhance traditional, modern, and avant-garde spaces alike. Lonstein’s minimalist approach is evident throughout the collection, with simple yet substantial forms that elevate the everyday object. By working with glass in its purest state, he emphasizes the depth of the material, balancing simplicity with rich complexity. Drawing from his architectural background, Lonstein incorporates a sense of geometric precision in his designs. The collection features offset geometries, diagonals, zig-zags, and irregular shapes—elements that imbue the furniture with both architectural structure and organic fluidity. The works are designed not just to be visually striking but to create harmonious seating arrangements that contribute to a more connected space. Light also plays a crucial role in the collection, as Lonstein is captivated by the way glass interacts with its environment. This dynamic quality—the way surrounding conditions change the appearance of glass—adds depth and ensures that each piece remains engaging in any setting. In strictly limited edition, each work is made from thick, natural molten glass, ensuring longevity without the need for unnecessary embellishments. 📍On View Spring 26 STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN New York Gallery 241 Church Street, New York, NY By Appointment Only

THE MODERN COTTAGE KITCHEN. In the kitchen and breakfast nook of this Southampton cottage, natural oak millwork, plaster, and stone establish a warm, natural palette. A generous central island anchors the space, designed for both cooking and gathering, with sculptural simplicity and ample surface area that keeps it highly functional without feeling heavy. A built-in corner nook makes efficient use of the surrounding footprint, sitting within natural light from the windows and softening the transition between kitchen and landscape. LAYERED IN ART. One of my favorite parts of a design project is collaborating with artists and galleries to select the artwork for a home. It’s the final layer—the element that brings everything into focus, shaping the mood and making a space feel complete. The pieces here were sourced through Mariposa Gallery. In the guest bedroom, a vibrant work by @chelseaculprit brings energy and play. In the living room, an abstract piece by @carly_burnell hangs above the fireplace, its painterly quality softening the space. In the primary bedroom, a more subtle work above the desk helps balance rest and work. Each room calls for its own mood—and artwork is what brings that intention to life. COASTAL, RECONSIDERED. The main living space of this Southampton cottage was fully opened during renovation. Walls, partitions, and flat ceilings were removed to create a single space beneath exposed beams, with windows drawing the pastoral landscape in on all sides. Despite its beach house address, the room reads more like an English or French country interior: autumnal linens, collected antiques, copper fixtures, and a material warmth that notably contrasts the typical coastal palette. Coming in from the heat of a Southampton summer, the space offers something cooler and quieter—not in color, but in atmosphere. Thank you to @elk_elisa and the team at @elledecor for the thoughtful feature. Read the full story at the link in bio.
