Album review? Don’t mind if I do! Texas born-and-raised, Denver-based hip-hop artist @jdthemedicinechild released his debut album, Product Of The World, back in May, but I had to revisit it ahead of him headlining One World, One Love: An Alignment of the People this Saturday, August 30 at Denver’s Black Buzzard. I broke down how boom bap drums and socially conscious lyricism are used as touchstones across the album’s seven tracks, which tackle subjects like police brutality, immigration, addiction, and cultural pride. And there’s some extremely nerdy academic theory at the end, because I simply can’t help myself🤓 Thought-provoking, nostalgic, and explicitly political, Product Of The World is urgently relevant in our political hellscape- and it also fucking slaps.
