I’ve seen @brandicarlile live since 2006 — Bowery Ballroom, Town Ball, Tanglewood, BAM and now Madison Square Garden — and no matter how big or small the place her vocals have always stunned, her humanity and humility have remained beautifully palpable, and she has never failed make me feel like she’s singing directly to me. Last night at MSG was no different. If you haven’t listened to the audiobook of her memoir, Broken Horses, you’re in for one of the most moving experiences of your life. She punctuates each chapter with the songs she wrote and performed at the time. Mesmerizing.

🇮🇱 has kicked off the new year by banning 37 emergency aid organizations from entering Gaza including @doctorswithoutborders whose medics have treated over half a million Palestinians in the last two years of genocide. Groups like @palestineredcrescent and @thepcrf are still on the ground doing their best against formidable odds to treat hundreds of thousands of Gazans who are displaced, freezing, starving and injured. Respect and gratitude to @kaoutherbenhania for magnifying on the world stage the despicable murder committed by 🇮🇱 soldiers of six year old Hind Rajab, her family and the two @palestineredcrescent medics who tried to save her. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at The Venice Film, the film is being distributed all over the world, but not 🇺🇸. Thanks to @directorsguild for hosting the screening in NYC tonight.
After almost two years of Israel’s globally-complicit genocide and months of blocked aid there is a moment of performed concern voiced by world leaders thanks to the dogged activists and few brave politicians who’ve relentlessly shouted the truth of what’s happening despite western media’s largely successful attempt to amplify Zionist lies. This moment is only a fraction true, a sliver real, and food and medical relief remain largely blocked from entering Gaza and what is getting through via the hideous GHF is deployed as lure to murder those who journey far on foot to have a chance at securing it for their family. But *some* relief is being maneuvered in and is reaching the starving and wounded and sick. PCRF with other relentless organizations, is at the front of the line doing what they can when they can to meet the desperate need. Please, once again, help support their heroic efforts.
The great @rickieleejones_ performed at Sony Hall tonight in NYC. I’ve never been able to explain why she’s been so important to me since college, or figure out a way to adequately describe her particular brand of magic, but it was in ample evidence tonight.
Her memoir, like her lyrics, is brilliant. She sang the song that shares the book’s title and blew us all away.
