Crematory – Denial CD
New reissue CD - OUT NOW on
@necroharmonic … In Stockholm’s underground, Crematory emerged in 1989 as one of the most overlooked entities of early Swedish death metal, rooted in a doom death metal atmosphere that set them apart from their contemporaries. Featuring Stefan Harrvik (vocals), Urban Skytt (guitars), Johan Hanson (bass), and Mats Nordrup (drums), the band carved out a darker approach focused on density, atmosphere, and weight. The Denial recordings represent the culmination of this short but essential run in Swedish Death Metal History…
Hailing from Haninge, just outside Stockholm, Crematory existed within the same geographic breeding ground as Entombed, Dismember, Unleashed, Carnage, and Therion, yet their path diverged into something more obscure , even a band that stayed heavier. . They shared stages with these acts during the early scene years and even some Finnish Death Metal bands. . After Crematory dissolved in 1993, Mats Nordrup( also an early member of General Surgery during the demo era) along with Urban Skytt and Johan Hanson would later formulate in Regurgitate. Urban Skytt later join Nasum , and General Surgery, his current mortuary, while Stefan Harrvik remained connected through Necrophobic.
The foundation of Denial is built on the demo era: Mortal Torment (1989), The Exordium (1990), Wrath from the Unknown (1991), the Denial MLP (1992), and Netherworlds of the Mind (1992)—four defining tapes, though technically five recordings with the 1989 promo included. Tracks like “Chunks of Flesh,” “Wrath from the Unknown,” and “Enshrouded (in the River of Eternity)” stand as key moments.
By 1992, Crematory reached their final form. Though brief, their recordings remain a crucial document within Swedish death metal. Denial stands as a complete excavation of the band’s work
