Wonderful to see @piwit_studio (‘25) cut the ribbon on the new Red Fence Gallery in Beverly, MA and featured by the Massachusetts Cultural Council! Way to go Stephanie! #clarkmfa ・・・ Beverly is filled with art and creativity! There’s no better example of this than with the relaunch of the Red Fence Gallery, a changing public art exhibit showcasing local artists on Cabot Street by the Atomic Cafe. Over 40 residents and community leaders attended the Ribbon Cutting 🎀 and reception last Friday evening. The Red Fence Gallery was a constant since 2016 but not surprisingly, shut down during the pandemic. Thanks to generous funding from the Mass Cultural Council and the project coordinated by partners Beverly Main Street, Montserrat College of Art and the City of Beverly with input from the Beverly Cultural District Partnership Committee, the Red Fence Gallery been reactivated! Check out the presenters and speakers Becki Green, Community Engagement Manager Beverly Main Streets, Brian Pellinen President Montserrat College of Art and Stephanie Williams artist extraordinaire. This year is especially significant as Williams has created a masterpiece to celebrate Beverly’s 400th! The symbolism and detail is not to be missed❣️ While Williams hails from France, she declares herself a Beverly resident at heart, making Beverly her home for the past 26 years. Her love and devotion to our great city runs deep and she hopes that she has captured its history in this incredible work of art for all to share and enjoy. After the Ribbon Cutting, a reception was held sponsored by Historic Beverly and Montserrat College of Art. Walk Cabot Street and check it out!! #keepitlocalgbcc #publicart #creativityfound #community

Looks great Brooke! #Repost @noisyriverstudio ・・・ Two more weeks to catch MATERIAL DIALOGUES Last year I spent six months as an artist-in-residence with the UMASS Boston archive making work in conversation with their political poster and Boston Bus Drivers collections. Boston area friends, check out the book launch on Friday April 3rd from 5-7pm at @praise.shadows.art for “Two Artists Talking” which includes MFA faculty @dtwheel ! Way to go Deb! #clarkmfa Repost @praise.shadows.art ・・・ Praise Shadows is pleased to host the book launch for Two Artists Talking, a new publication that invites you into the studios, art, and lives of established Boston area artists. On Friday, April 3 from 5-7 pm, join the book’s creators and featured artists Ria Brodell, Daniela Rivera, Brooke Stewart, Jamal Thorne, Deb Todd Wheeler, and Yu-Wen Wu for a reception and book signing. In this collection of interviews, Boston artists dive deep into the meaning behind their practice, materials and technique, challenges in their lives, and getting their work seen. Two Artists Talking is a special limited edition artist book of interviews with Boston-area artists: Danielle Abrams, Ria Brodell, David Antonio Cruz, Daniela Rivera, Brooke Stewart, Jamal Thorne, Deb Todd Wheeler and Yu-Wen Wu. The interviews were conducted by students attending School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) at Tufts University who visited the artists’ studios to inquire about meaning, materials, process, and career strategy. Their conversations serve as evidence that there are no right answers in how to navigate life and career as an artist. Two Artists Talking was designed and edited by artists McCall Hollister, Eva Lundsager, and Cassidy Westjohn. The interviews were conducted by artists Elizabeth Blessing, McCall Hollister, Maddie Kelly, Sally Lee, Felipe Lopez, Eva Lundsager, Marek Modzelewski, and Cassidy Westjohn. An earlier unpublished version of the book was designed by Mrudhubhashini Vijayakumar. The book is available for purchase at Praise Shadows Art Shop (in person and at the link in our bio), for $28. Photos: Gwyneth Koeckhoven @two.artists.talking

Check out alum @noisyriverstudio ’s stunning installation, “Twelve Yards of Trading Cloth”, opening Monday 5-7pm at @emersoncontemporary , 10 Boylston Place in Boston! Way to go Brooke! #clarkmfa #Repost @noisyriverstudio ・・・ 𝙏𝙬𝙚𝙡𝙫𝙚 𝙔𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙡𝙤𝙩𝙝 (2024) India Ink on ghost monoprints, wooden ladders, clay pipes, linen thread, 22” x 35’ x 8′ Installation Audio: 4 minutes, 20 seconds This piece is part of a research-based body of work investigating the historical and socio-political ecologies of Cotton Hollow, a nature preserve in South Glastonbury, Connecticut. Before white settlers arrived it was the winter home of the Nayaug, a tribe of the Wangunk, part of the Algonquin federation. When English settlers moved in, they harnessed—for 200 years—the power of the water in service of multiple industries (anchor works, lumber yard, cotton mill, gun powder factory, and more), forever altering the landscape. In 1636, English settlers came across the Connecticut river and purportedly made an agreement with the local sachem, Sowheag, to use the land. Thirty-five years later, in 1671, a confirmatory deed was written, effectively trading the town of Glastonbury, approximately 50 square miles today, for twelve yards of trading cloth. Here, I’ve recreated those twelve yards, using monoprints of material collected at the site layered with inky searching lines that start with observational drawing and get lost on the way. There is much the historical record can’t tell us, so I intentionally hold space for material memory and a felt sense. The audio consists of recordings from Roaring Brook in Cotton Hollow as well as my voice, reading and making sense of the language in the deed. Check that out on my website. This piece is on display this week in a pop-up exhibit at Emerson College, at 10 Boylston Place, with the opening on Monday from 5 - 7 pm.
