Once home to ship cargo and stevedores, this laboratory for the arts references its Red Hook maritime, industrial, and craft past, as well as the neighborhood’s own present and future. A thriving arts community has made the place a ready focus for Brooklyn and beyond.

We’re thrilled that lighting artist extraordinaire, Clare Brew, will be sharing some of her neon works with us.
Come bask in their glow while on view at the Crosby St. showroom until November 8th.
In the first phase of work, the team has taken a light hand in supporting the proposed program, indicating its future promise while maintaining a connection to Red Hook through a focus on the existing masonry shell, heavy timber framing, and apertures at the building envelope.

What a Chryssa week! I bought a biography on Chryssa, an artist I’ve always admired. Then, two clients back-to-back asked me to work on Chryssa pieces. I’m not sure what book to buy next!

Summer of 2016!!! I was responsible for keeping this public artwork by @martin_creed spinning and lit up, while @chrisscarafiledp operated the lift. Our experiences were quite different…. Chris would often express in blissful optimism how lucky we were as he gazed at the skyline, enjoying the view. Meanwhile, I spent my time in the lift either with my head inside the main shaft column of the sculpture troubleshooting electrical issues, whilst covered in grease or carefully hanging out of the bucket to replace the week’s broken neon tubes.
The project concluded in October 2016, and I was soon to realize how lucky we really were when we had UNDERSTANDING ❤️
