I've had the pleasure of making portraits of not one but TWO Man Booker Prize winners here at Coffey Street. One was the great Alan Hollinghurst, born on this day in 1954.
Can you guess the other? Hint: upon reading Rushdie's "Shame" he said, "Its prose was so audacious, its reality so unhinged, that you didn't see at first how pointedly political and just plain furious it was. It made me realize that the present was something I could write my way out of."
Which makes me wonder, can one PHOTOGRAPH their way out of the present?
