It was a privilege to get my Grandpa Joe on this earthly plane for so long. To absorb his wisdom & stories. He was a bona fide badass, hard worker, & contained way more tenderness than one might expect from a major leaguer. Every night he would thaw & de-vein shrimp for his beloved cat, Butch. He fed every squirrel & bird in the neighborhood & cared deeply for his tomato garden. After a childhood in the Euclid projects, a life of travel & extraordinary professional feats (hitting off of Koufax in the ‘65 Series among them), he turned into a man so content with the small things. He played RuneScape almost every night for a solid decade. He knew the power of Goodness & Truth & Opening Your Home to Your Neighbor. It feels so special that many of my dearest friends got to meet him. Last month I asked him for advice he’d give to his 29 year old self, he said “Enjoy.”
We will gather at Church on 3/14 to celebrate Always Living Somewhere!!! Unbelievably excited to share this night with dear friends & to hopefully fill some of sorrow’s carvings with joy & community. AND it will kick off a run with deep rock and rollers, Cleveland’s finest, @napsacktheband
Goodman is out now!! It is the country one and it is special to me! Everyone sings on it (including @avtate ….) @zoefirn is on violin & @captaintallen on cello. It is more or less about the bloody handprint that was on the ceiling of my 2002 Ford Taurus.
