🪟 We’re excited to announce “似曾相识 | Dance, in Theater with Window,” an installation in /room/ by Berkeley-based artist Yiming Clara (@cla___li ). The exhibition opens on Saturday, May 2 with artist remarks at 4:30pm and an opening reception from 5 to 8pm.
Clara uses familiar forms to explore the exhibition space as a site of social choreography, inviting us to renegotiate our relations to the world and to others.
“似曾相识 | Dance, in Theater with Window” was selected from our 2025 open call by jurors Nicolás Colón (@bby_gap ) and Fernanda Partida Ochoa (@unapajarera ) and is generously supported by The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. The installation includes sound designed by Claire Hu (@gardenintheoctopus )and will be accompanied by two performances, the second of which will feature Fumi Okiji. Stay tuned for more details.

I’m very excited to invite you to the third edition of 202019: Occasions, “Realty Principle”, a solo exhibition by Eliot D’Silva.
Eliot D’Silva’s “Realty Principle” (not Reality Principle) transforms the apartment gallery into a staged, open house. Visitors pass through domestic scenes: a cologne-scented living room, a bathroom with toothbrushes and a dripping sink, a strobing bedroom with a charger but no phone, and a kitchen of unused, plastic-wrapped utensils. A 4-channel sound work inhabits each space with acousmatic voices (Mother, Father, Daughter, Son). If “Sight Unseen” has come to refer to the execution of a real estate transaction in which property exchanges title prior to physical inspection, here, physical inspection itself becomes the unseen site: each member of the family strains toward an exterior beyond the apartment, staged as a 6’ x 1’ strip of astroturf on a balcony. Run time: 2 hours.
Eliot D’Silva is a writer, researcher and teacher living in Berkeley, CA.

I decided all the work will have no finish point, only certain intensities of surfacing, like that brief occurrence in the last 202019 occasion. These are images of something slowly happening into a long scroll of moving images with a long indecipherable talking in the back or something a like, that I am returning to slowly. Though I found these images in a flash scrolling through my photo album looking for something else.

Installed during 202019: Occasions, The Chair at the
height level of exhibition tombstones, the series explicated nothing about the show but a philosophical reading of Chairs. Made in collaboration with Emmanuel Roch, we drew extractions from his History of Philosophy Thesis (Lyon III university and École normale supérieure de Lyon, supervised by Tristan Garcia), tinkering with the tenets of language and how it formulates the world through didactics, translations, and perceptions.

I am verrry excited to invite you to the second edition of 202019: Occasions, “Speakers Never Learn”, a salon on the sonic I made in collaboration with Hyungtae Kim. On January 23rd, we will open with the first occasion, Still Coming Into The World: A Sunrise Gathering, a research-based listening event.
Centered around a sample of sound works dedicated to or heard by artist Theresa Hak Kyung Cha herself while in Berkeley, California, this gathering is conceived by Cha Scholar, Ju Ly Ban; Independent Writer, Isabelle Utzinger-Son; and artist, Cici Wu. @julysses000@isabelle_u__s__@happpiness.2021
Still Coming Into World is an opening ceremony that stakes a single sound: “friendship.” We hope you join us to celebrate the persistence of that sound in: the works of Reese Williams; Berkeley, CA; 2026; Sunrise – 11:00 A.M.; between friends; through speakers.

I am very excited to present the first edition of 202019: Occasions, a new exhibition series beginning with the subject of “The Chair”.
On this occasion I attempt to bring together some forceful encounters within the gravitational field of my locality, as they are figurated through questions and images, fragments of manuscripts and long-awaited sculptures, and, of course, poetry. These are the things that resurface infinitely in my mind as residue of a much longer conversation, affinity, and imagination that have opened to a widening joy. This, as Alejandra says, is our attempt at a coherence that is against the world.
Growing out of a longing to gather what matters most, this unfolds as a natural evolution from a year of tea gatherings—only now borrowing a new ritual.
