What a way to close out summer 🌊🌅 I spent a very special week in the Midcoast with some very special people, and I absolutely LOVED being a LEF/CIFF Fellow. It was supportive, nurturing, and filled me with hope, excitement, and encouragement for filmmaking (which can feel impossible these days... ) I’m so grateful for our cohort of talented storytellers and the respect, love, and care they gave to my very personal film, our facilitator @tchandler I can’t wait to celebrate our projects out there soon. Squad goals vibes all around ✌🏽✌🏽 A huge thank you to the Points North and LEF/CIFF @camdeniff staff for your generosity, hospitality, and unwavering support of independent documentary filmmakers — no one does it like you. Big thanks also to the @lef_foundation for supporting this film, uplifting New England filmmakers, and making this region so rich in storytelling. The team— @lisaannleialoha @manettepottle , @josiecolt and @ireneleihuanani my (literal) ride or ( not really) die, I will prank you forever. Dar Marjana is still in its early stages, but it’s already being so beautifully supported.

This is a bit of old news but being a part of this cohort of CAAM recipients became soo so real when I got to meet these fellow filmmakers at Sundance ❤️❤️❤️ truly so honored to be in the company of these incredible intricate and important Muslim films. So grateful to @caamedia the @dorisdukefdn and @leiluna_saada for supporting my film and for bringing us all together in Park City. I absolutely loved meeting, eating, laughing and dancing with you all. I also got to celebrate 10 years of @browngirlsdocmafia 🥹🥹 a group I joined 7 years ago — a pivotal moment in my career. My first Sundance was the last one in Park City, and it was sweet to experience that precipice as a newcomer—to witness what once was while standing on the brink of what will be for this monumental festival ✨✨✨

Just coming out of a week @atlasworkshops.marrakech and feeling honored to have shared this workshop experience with quite an inspiring cohort of Moroccan filmmakers. Super super grateful for the whole superstar staff at Atlas (it truly takes a village esp to wrangle a large group of artists) they welcomed us, mentored us and nurtured us with grace, care and great patience. Thank you @manettepottle for joining me on this adventure and for being so steadfast in your love and support and @lisaannleialoha @ireneleihuanani for championing us from a distance. Excited for all of our journeys and our films✨💖

I’ve been visiting this Erg since I was thirteen and the first time I climbed her and got to the top, I felt she understood me. I would go on to realize that this is what I chase the most in my life- to feel understood. Over the years I’ve returned to Chgaga and every time she takes me as I am with very little explanation, she listens to my grievances, catalogues them and puts them in the starry sky with all the others and she reassures me that all those misunderstandings I suffered through are just simply “typical” and that she totally gets it. Ughh men, ughh people, ughh family, ughh work, ughh money, ughh greed, ughh bureaucrats, ughh cold- she takes them all. And yeah, she’s right, they’re pretty typical. Thank you @claytonsimoncic for capturing me in my favorite place and for coming to Erg Chgaga with us 🧡

IDFAcademy you were real— halfway through I prioritized hanging with friends and watching many many films and I think that’s what film festivals are for?? @jack.rohner “Lost in Translationed” with me and it was the sweetest. Stayed on a boat, caught up with @ibrahimomarmoktar 4 years after OneBeat Sahara 🥹 and got to see @tchandler ‘s 9,192,631,770 Hz in a theater ☺️

@jack.rohner made me light for sharp shadows but having a custom light also means needing to fix it sometimes.

Winter Part 2. When I found out David Lynch died I was in a small coastal fishing town in Morocco. I was with a really cool gang of filmmakers and we were writing our films. This town’s forgotten and rundown local movie house was re-opened so we could screen and watch docs every night. I think David Lynch would’ve also thought this wild and dreamy place was pretty neat. Thought of you the whole time Lynch 🕊️✨
