282 and 287 are the days of the year, according to the Julian calendar that the military uses, that Jason, co founder and head cidermaker (@azcidermaker ) hit IED’s (Improvised Explosive Devices) while deployed in Afghanistan. As a result of the injuries he sustained during those explosions, Jason received a Purple Heart and he was medically retired from the @usmarinecorps .
Every time we see these numbers we are reminded of the great cost of war. We are reminded both of the horrors of combat and the hope that still remains in this world. We are grateful Jason is still with us and also mindful of those who never made it home. 282 and 287 are more than dates on a calendar to us, they are daily reminders of why we do what we do.

Many of you know what Cider Corps is and means to me. Its a place built out of brokenness and pain. It proves that you can overcome obstacles in your life. Cider Corps is a place of healing and community. It’s not perfect and we’ve made our share of mistakes, but we continue to strive to be the best and represent a community who finds healing and love through adversity and inclusivity.
I was wounded October 8th and 12th of 2012. We were tasked by MARSOC to tear down an active Taliban prison in the Helmand province, VSP Watan. I remember sitting in a school circle around one of the MARSOC gunnys, beat up, dirty and ready to put a stop to the constant attacks on their FOB. They had just lost a brother a few nights before we made it to Watan. The next several days were some of the most intense times I experienced in Afghanistan. I hit two IEDs and suffered traumatic brain injuries that plagued me for several years after. I am incredibly thankful to my family, my doctors and caregivers who helped during my recovery and are still by my side today as I continue to stretch the boundaries of who I am and what I thought my capabilities would be. I am one of the lucky ones. Today I remember those who live with the invisible wounds of war as well as the ones who didn’t make it back. Their families who must continue on without their presence. The Purple Heart is a reminder to be thankful for this precious life, to be grateful for the community that surrounds me and that I want to be a light that shines for others who are going through their darkest times. I am here, you are loved. For those of you who have veterans in your life, reach out, let them know you are there. A simple act of kindness that can change the path some of us get stuck walking on, alone.
I am fortunate I made it home. I raise a glass to those who didn’t, as well as their families.

Every Memorial Day, we lace up, throw some weight on our backs, and walk with purpose — honoring the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedoms.
This year, we’re honored to be joined by our friends at The Shop Beer Co. for the journey. We’ll gather at their Downtown Tempe taproom between 7:00–7:30am for breakfast tacos and burritos by @losdoscarnalestaqueria , before stepping off together toward Cider Corps at 8am. Along the route, we’re planning a few pit stops to drop packs, hydrate, grab a beverage, and reset before finishing strong at the taproom.
Once back to Cider Corps, @quechevereaz will be slingin’ burgers, and cider will be flowing.
Can’t make the ruck? You can still raise a glass for a good cause. The Shop crew will be donating $1 from every pint of Crispy sold to support Honor Great Sacrifice Foundation and our mission of caring for veterans and their families across the Valley.

Memorial Day 2026
For the fifth year in a row, we will close on Memorial Day to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to this country.
Many of them answered the call because they believed in something bigger than themselves. A truth profoundly written in the Declaration of Independence:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Those words were never free.
They came with a cost.
For some, it was their life.
For others, the battle continued long after they came home.
Memorial Day has always carried two emotions for me. Gratitude and heartbreak.
A celebration of the lives, courage, and sacrifice of those who gave everything for others.
And a painful reminder of the weight so many carried along the way.
Five years ago, we started this Memorial Day ruck as a way to reflect on what it truly means to serve. To walk beside the people I love. To carry weight in remembrance of those who no longer can.
Since then, it has become something much bigger than I ever expected.
Every year, more people show up.
More stories are shared.
More people realize they are not alone.
Because this has never really been about fitness.
It’s about remembrance.
It’s about gratitude.
It’s about community.
And it’s about showing up for each other when life feels heavy.
If you’ve been struggling silently…
If you’ve been carrying more than people realize…
If life feels heavier than it should right now…
I see you.
You are loved.
And you do not have to carry it alone.
So again, this Memorial Day, we walk together.
To honor the fallen.
To celebrate the lives they lived.
And to remind each other that even in darkness, nobody was meant to walk alone.
