Feels weird to live a normal life whilst so many of my friends in Palestine are living in fear, but im always reminded of our privileges. The first pic here is me n Tess visiting the sea in Yafa, a town which Israel colonised in 1948. Despite having spent 3 summers working in the west bank id never actually spent more than a couple of hours in Israeli territory whilst passing through the airport, so last summer was my first time seeing the sea in occupied Palestine. Almost all of my Palestinian friends have never been either. We were struck by how horrific it was that most of our pals/colleagues are not able to catch a bus to the area and visit this beautiful beach, yet internationals can roam freely and spend our coin as we like. I noticed some elderly hijabi women, facetiming w/ their cameras to the water, reduced to tears as they showed the ocean to loved ones. Something simple as looking at the sea is a dream to most, n that doesnt even scratch the surface of the rights which these people have been denied for 75 years. If u bothered to read this then its safe to assume u already know about the slaughter in Gaza which has left as many as 5% of the population dead. Many dont know about brutal conditions in the west bank, where they’re now seeing frequent pogroms/lynchings from extremist settler militias, & homes destroyed by the Israeli Army (despite having nothing to do with Hamas).
What was once a situation worse than South African apartheid has now escalated into a full blown genocidal bloodbath, & Israel show no signs of stopping any time soon. I hate asking people to infringe on their freedoms as nobody likes being told what to do, but am begging you, if seeing these dead innocent lives on your phone every day sets off any kind of reaction in your body, please make an effort to boycott whenever you possibly can. It’s what Palestinians are asking us to do, having an economic impact on this murderous state and its allies seems to be the only thing which is going to put an end to the killing. List of companies to target on is on my story, spread the word to anyone who’ll listen, no more mcds no more disney+ until this shit stops👍
Our album’s out now! Just gonna gush on instagram for a couple minutes cos where else are you meant to dae it, am very proud of our work on this thing and everyone who helped us make it, from industry legends and music loving pals to family and friends who have supported us and allowed us to keep doing tunes. It took us years to get through the writing and production of this and then near enough the same length of time to get it out. This album drove me to hell and back at times but it was such a pleasure to create something that will be there to return to forever, and we made a lot of memories in the process.
