Schönhauser Allee, shot with a Hasselblad 500cm on Fomapan 400 at f/16, 1/500 – the shutter is fixed!

Quick visit home, an island in danger of washing into the sea. Managed to surface a couple of times when the rain took breathers and saw a couple of furry friends, some more waterproof than others. Didn’t see all the friends or family I wanted to see. Next time.
Nearly didn’t make it back. Flight delayed (thankfully only three hours) because Berlin airport is unprepared for snow and ice. It’s amazing how people are surprised by winter conditions in winter. Many flights were cancelled. Thinking of those who didn’t make it back 🫡

The market around the corner. I always regretted not spending more time here, but I was always rushing through on my way to the train station or to get the bus to the stadium. If you want to take good photos, the first thing you need is time. It’s more important than the camera. I wanted to stop and dwindle, talk to people, make friends, but there was always work to do, something to write, a presser to go to. These were just snapped on the run.

– “If you ask me, the whole thing was fishier than the annual river salmon hunt.”
– “I couldn’t bear all the drama, it was too much.”
The Teranga bears were still discussing the Africa Cup final when we visited on Tuesday. As you can see, they also had their towels stolen.
I’ll post some photos from Morocco in the coming days when I’ve had a chance to look at them. Been busy with my own two bears since I got back.

Today was the first gloriously sunny day in Rabat since I got here. People were walking around with happy smiles on their faces, their daily struggles momentarily forgotten.
Did you know they disguise mobile phone masts as palm trees here? They’re not fooling anyone.

Greetings from the Africa Cup of Nations. No football today so time to post a few photos, mostly of the opening ceremony.
It was preceded by CAF president Patrice Motsepe announcing the night before that there will only be an AFCON every four years from 2028, which hasn’t gone down well at all. That’s him in the second photo with his friend from FIFA, whom everyone is blaming for the decision. I still need to write about the fall out.
The tournament itself is going as expected, and the atmosphere isn’t the same at all as it was in Ivory Coast. The weather’s been crap for a start. FIFA is also to blame for that. The tournament was supposed to be played in summer but it was pushed back to let Gianni Infantino have his Club World Cup in the United States.
The music is from the last AFCON, and the fans at the end are Senegal supporters in Tangier.

These are “lost photos,” pictures taken with my phone when I was measuring the light for a roll of film in my mother’s @leica_camera IIIa, empty when I went to develop it. It’s the second consecutive botched film in that camera, so I guess I need to bring it back to be checked out again.
It’s pretty disheartening. You spend all that time measuring the light, turning knobs, levers and buttons, composing the shots, and it’s all for nothing in the end.
The @hasselblad I bought recently is already at the repair shop. None of the photos I took at certain speeds ever came out. So about half the shots I took with that were never taken at all. I might do another “lost photos” series from that.
These photos are from a road trip I did last month with my mother and son from Nice to Italy and back (the first picture is Florence, then there’s Cinque Terra, and Nice), then photos from Berlin, home in Ireland, and back in Berlin.
M83’s Unrecorded should be the soundtrack, but it’s not on Instagram. And neither are these photos.
