Featured in @archdigest , our Santa Cruz project reflects a belief that home is a portrait, shaping our days and holding the experiences and memories that define life within. Situated along the Pacific, the ocean is the spiritual anchor of the home and what first drew this family to the site. It is both retreat and inspiration, setting the rhythm for daily life. The massing of the home is carefully composed, open to the landscape while protective of its residents. Cropped eaves, a low-slung entry roof, and a courtyard plan respond directly to the site’s public and coastal exposure. Inside, the home unfolds like a gallery. Circulation is guided by framed views to the landscape, with moments of compression at entry and release as spaces open toward the ocean. Each room is composed to create an authentic relationship with the dynamic coastline, where daily life moves with the quiet certainty of the tides. The care we bring to every residence reflects our dedication to both our clients and the land itself. Each home becomes a site-specific portrait of place, and of the lives lived within it. Some honors feel like a quiet nod from the universe. Being named to the Wallpaper* USA 400, among the voices shaping design and culture today, is one of them. Thank you @wallpapermag for the great honor. It’s a reminder of why we do what we do: to create spaces that hold beauty, meaning, and a little magic ✨ 🥰 Special thank you to @michaelreynoldsnyc 📸 @timlenzphoto #wallpapermagazine, #wallpaperusa400

Every local knows it. Since 1937, this Santa Cruz cottage has captivated the community’s imagination — appearing on postcards, inspiring amateur novelists, a fixture on the bluffs above Monterey Bay long before we arrived. Our work was to honor that history. To be sensitively tuned to the place, and leave it more itself than we found it. As featured in @archdigest . Full story at the link in bio. Happy International Women’s Day. Two friends who became creative partners who became Chroma. We didn’t build this alone…we’re grateful for every woman whose work, grit, and creativity made space for ours, and for the talented women on our team who shape what Chroma is today. To the women who came before, beside, and after us. x L&A #internationalwomensday

About an hour-and-a-half north of San Francisco, sheltered from the rest of the world by a lush canopy of oaks, a dynamic young family’s year-round escape from city life unfolds as pure devotion to the art of living. More than a quick getaway, this is a place shaped by creativity, landscape and indoor-outdoor living. Located on an acre-and-a-half lot in the heart of Sonoma’s wine country, the house commands sweeping views of the Mayacamas Mountains and the region’s famed vineyards. What was once a traditional 1960s Spanish hacienda-style home has been transformed into a vibrant contemporary retreat by @chromasf , the San Francisco-based interior design studio led by partners Alexis Tompkins and Leann Conquer. The studio conceived a vibrant, textural and wholly mid-century aesthetic that pays a convivial deference to the native landscape surrounding the 3,900 sq ft, four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom home. Here, the boundaries between inside and out soften, and the rhythms of family life move in step with the land. It is, as Chroma describe it, ‘very much indoor-outdoor living’: a family home that celebrates the landscape, creativity and the everyday art of living well. Beginning to digest [many] images from a recent trip to Italy — Milan and Parma, searching, dreaming, and collecting. Merchants with their wears, exhibition staples, art, fashion, food... it’s always a vibe shift. xx Alexis.
