This past year was a big one for me in ways that were both public and private. I want to thank everyone, especially
@claireloumoon and
@mausikaitis , who made my exhibition at
@lulacafe this summer possible. It was, very honestly, one of the very best experiences both making and showing artwork that I’ve had. Thanks to everyone who came to see it, your kindness literally gave me a panic attack (in a good way, weirdly). Thank you to all of my friends and acquaintances that stuck with and supported me while I more or less disappeared into the studio for the first five months of the year. Thank you to
@thecreativeindependent and
@maireadcase for the opportunity to talk about my work and get uncharacteristically personal in public about mental illness among other things. Thank you to everyone who got tattooed and
@topranktattoo ,
@sabbath.tattoo.chi and my brother
@andyhefner at
@transmissionbaltimore for providing such fabulous places to work, I hope to do at least ten times as much tattooing in the coming year. Twenty times. Thank you to
@adultperiod for absorbing me into your world, it’s still an honor and cannot wait for what the coming year has in store for our little Night Family. Most of all thank you and all of my Love to
@feralcatbox for our whole entire weird life and
@teevee_tv for being the unwitting custodian of our mental health.
This year was also harrowing, and since we all know it I won’t belabor the point any further. Instead, let’s all continue to work, push, resist, organize and collaborate with the intention that everyone gets exactly what they deserve in the new year. Don’t forget to do and make things solely for the sake of doing and making them, too. Not everything is homework and some of the best shit happens when you get out of your own way.
In lieu of a picture of me, here is a new drawing on gessoed panel that shares the proportions of my biometric photo.
Be safe, good luck and look out for one another.
Lots of love,
CMH
