Today, for the first time the #RS016 #Helios commission moves under its own power. A glorious moment after nearly 3 years of work in creating the car. Seeing it out in the daylight, moving under the trees as the wind swirls through our Minnesota forest is magical. Now for some shakedown miles!

A before and after display of the RÜNGE Veleno Coachwork. The aluminum tube buck was designed from scratch and by eye. I shaped the psssenger half of the tube buck from front to back and my 15 yr old son (at the time) matched my half of the car, creating the drivers half. The underpinnings started life as a 2004 Dodge Viper SRT10 roadster. Over 5,000 man hours went into the Veleno commission.

The first RÜNGE car crafted was #FF001 beginning with the wood buck in December 2011. Reminiscent of the German post war specials, FF001 sports a Monoposto seating position nestled in an aluminum bodied, mid engine racer. By August of 2012 FF001 was shown publicly for the first time at @mncandc in Chanhassen, MN. It checked all the boxes for what my dream car would be and started the small bespoke car company now known as RÜNGE.

Road or Race? The hand made @runge_cars Lightweight tube frame RS, built on 356B mechanicals and powered by a 1720cc 912 engine. Stopping the 1300LB RS is done with drilled and vented 356B drums. A custom 4 speed Getrag longbox allows cruising speeds at 90MPH. Also shown is our 1961 Porsche 356B Cabriolet powered by a 1.9L twin plug 356B motor. The perfect two car solution for road or race!

While the design and engineering team are busy manufacturing the final details of our new Flat 8 engine abroad, Fin has had the @bambulab_official #H2S running nonstop for 3 months printing this full scale model out of PLA filament. This model allows us to mockup our newest chassis design and test fitment not only in our cars but a certain German, rear engined aircooled sports car. With the 057SL being Fin’s first solo design, we’ve combined old school techniques with modern technology as we bring the car to life. After Fin shaped the tube buck from scratch, he 3D scanned and modeled the car in Fusion. There he added design cues like the headrest fairing and intake humps. He 3D printed those pieces in full scale for me to use as templates to shape off of. In this video I share that process. turns out not only can you teach an old dog new tricks… he might actually like them!

Christopher Runge behind the wheel of the Runge Veleno, with his son Fin riding shotgun.
The Veleno is one of those rare machines that feels less like a car and more like a sculpture in motion.
Hand-formed aluminum. Minimalist engineering. Built almost entirely by Runge himself in Michigan.
Its spirit pulls from the great European racers of pre 1950’s Bugatti, Alfa Romeo, Auto Union , but interpreted through @christopher_runge craftsman’s hands.
And just behind them, @rob_ida Rob Ida’s Black Cat quietly stalking Greenwich zippy roads.

When I purchased this old F. J. Edwards English Wheel, I anticipated it being at least 60 + years old. With the wheeling machine came every piece of mail and documentation of its origins. To my surprise, this might be the “youngest” Type E around.
