This beautifully produced 243-page volume gathers a curated selection of over 100 works made during the past six years, presented in chronological order and offering an extended view into the artist’s studio practice. Alongside paintings and drawings, studio photographs, sketchbooks, and digital sketches appear throughout the book, offering glimpses into the processes of making that underpin the work. Drawing and painting appear side by side, reflecting the central role drawing plays within Morrin’s practice. Rather than functioning as preparatory studies, the drawings exist alongside the paintings as equal parts of the same visual language. Forward traces this dialogue across the work while revealing the recurring gestures, images, and processes that continue to inform Morrin’s evolving practice. A big thank you to everyone who visited the show and reached out with such kind words, and to all those who inspired me along the way in shaping this exhibition into what it became. The following is a personal text written for the opening of the exhibition: “I didn’t make this series with a manifesto in mind. It came from a need to get closer to what actually matters. Life can feel full of noise, fear, and expectation. So much of that gets in the way of feeling what it means to be alive. Of noticing what’s tender, fragile, and extraordinary about being here at all. Making this work became a way of stepping away from performance. Of letting go of who I thought I should be. Of paying attention to what felt real. There is so much in life that moves us deeply — love, loss, falling in love, losing people we care about, the simple fact of how brief and precious this time is. This series came from a desire not to miss that. To stay close to what feels magical and mysterious, to the quiet intensity of being human, and to the people we share our lives with. I hope this room offers a moment to slow down, to feel something of that closeness, and to come back to the simple truth that this is already enough.” . Christopher Colm Morrin in conversation at Gallery Sofie Van de Velde. “What’s it all about?” For Morrin, the work resists that question. Rather than explaining, it offers space, enough to feel, rather than to define. In this video, he reflects on White Room as a gesture of slowing down. Of letting go, allowing uncertainty, and embracing what we don’t yet understand.
