Survival Mode: Hurricane Ian. For the pilot episode, director @christopher.cassel and I leaned into the bright Florida sun as a counterpoint to the darkness of the storm. There’s an uneasy duality to life in a place where nature’s beauty can turn deadly in an instant — and that contrast shaped the visual language of the series. We embraced windows and bright backgrounds, shaping soft, flattering light with book lights balanced with deep negative fill — enough shadow to echo the emotional depth of what this community lived through. A huge thanks to our intrepid crew, and to the courageous participants for trusting us with their stories.
