Had a fantastic time last weekend playing the @spectralmutation x @_boomclub showcase for the 2026 BoomSlang festival. This set featured electroacoustic viola with a system of envelope followers in Ableton Live and No-Input mixer feedback. More images and recording coming soon

Huge thanks to everyone who came out for the second curation between @nileashton and @lexnellmusic at @_boomclub !! Big love to our special guests @chrislockmusic who made his DUR debut from AVL and @ultrabillions who provided modular and visual synthesis and kept our millions of cables talking to each other. It was an incredible night of boundary pushing audio & visual collaborations, and it felt great to have so many friends and new faces there to share our experiments. It's awesome knowing Durham supports unique sonic programming in a big way- DM Lex or Nile to stay in the know or if you have unique audio visual experiences you'd like to see us bring to life in Durham or elsewhere. Our special guest for 4.11 at @_boomclub : @chrislockmusic Chris Lock is an electronic musician, creative programmer, violist, film composer, and educator currently based in Asheville, NC. He creates densely textural electronic music which slowly mutates and morphs over time and is often saturated with abstract imagery of the natural world and biological phantasmagoria. His unique musical practice is a synthesis of traditions ranging from Baltimore area noise and experimental music, where he first started working with sound, to his background as a modern classical Violist. Chris Lock will be performing for the first time in Durham alongside BOOMClub cofounder @ultrabillions . They'll be showcasing an improvisational set featuring viola, modular and visual synthesis, bringing elements of ambient, noise and electronic dance music to the BOOM Club stage. The night will debut improvisational sets from all artists and feature a live visual installation from Ultrabillions.⁣ Chris Lock and Ultrabillions will be performing together for the first time, showcasing viola and modular and visual synthesis, bringing elements of ambient, noise and electronic dance music to the BOOM Club stage.⁣ Later in the night will be a unique “Front to Front”(F2F) performance between Ashton, Nell and Ultrabillions. The trio comes together with the intention of expanding on the traditional DJ set, adding multiple dimensions for what is anticipated to be a special attendee experience. Lex Nell & Nile Ashton met in Durham after long runs in the NYC and NOLA scenes respectively. They share a mission of cultivating stronger outlets for underground programming, where selectors can push boundaries, and express themselves in an uncompromised, transcendent way, often in non-traditional environments. ⁣ They are thrilled to be working in collaboration with BOOM Club on this event.⁣ BOOM Club is Durham’s electronic music incubator and creative hub.
