The feeling of locking eyes with an animal that shares 98% of your DNA is something I really struggle to explain. It’s honestly a life changing experience.
So grateful to have these types of opportunities with my camera in hand.

My name is Chris Joubert, and in many ways I feel like I’ve become part of the DNA of Freedom of Movement.
I shot for them for the first time eleven years ago, just two years after they opened their doors. So when this collaboration came about, it felt like a natural fit.
My work has always been rooted in outdoor and adventure photography, mostly across South Africa, and that’s exactly what this brand represents.
The images we chose for this collection each capture a different corner of this country, and I hope they stir something in anyone who’s lived here, grown up here, or simply fallen in love with this place I call home.

A few days old and still figuring out how to walk and use their tails to stand tall in order to get a better view of the possible dangers around them.
I heard there were newborn meerkats while filming at @tswalu and made sure that the first thing we did the next day was wait for them to come out of their boroughs at sunrise to warm up in the African sun. The wait was worth every second to see these tiny animals navigate their new life in the Kalahari.

Wide open spaces, barking geckos, wild horses of Aus, forgotten towns, grumpy seas, apfelstrudel, late night chats in empty river beds, Tropic of Capricorn, endless gravel roads, cold beers, moonscapes, audio books, lonely gemsbok, red Kalahari sand, sunrises and sunsets, coffee in the rooftop tent and a place to clear our heads.
As Dr Suess said, it’s opener, out there, in the wide, open air.
