Gothic Wall E4 6a - Solo ground-up ✅
This isn’t what the algorithm wants but here’s three uninterrupted minutes of birdsong and concentrated breathing whilst I inch my way up this route at the Fairy Steps.
Wasn’t planning on climbing yesterday but needed to clear my head so went to explore a local crag I’d never tried. After a couple of routes I spotted this fingery, strenuous line up the centre of the gloom wall. Although you could probably get a good nut in the crux it would be strenuous to place and I had a single bouldering pad so thought I’d just have a go without a rope. Jumped off the move before the crux a couple of times and the landing seemed ok so decided to commit to soloing it.
Took a few goes to figure the moves out but I was confident that I could get it. Then it started raining and I realised I probably had one shot left so just dialled in the concentration, tried to control my breathing and gave it full commitment. The top section is still hard and I didn’t know what to expect, I just had a strong feeling that the halfway jug was going to be good enough to recover on and I could just concentrate on moving cleanly and efficiently. Really enjoyed the process of working this out and doing it in a ground-up style.

How to spin a card on your finger
Step one: It’s recommended that you get a brand new deck of high quality playing cards for this (they’ll spin better). I recommend anything by Copag or the United States Playing Card Company
Step teo: Practise balancing the card right in the centre of your finger tip
Step three: Gently try learn the snap
Step four: Over time, do it faster
Step five: Keep doing this for six to twelve years
Step six: Get a beer!
Step seven: Ta-da!
