We’re hyped to be shining a light on one of Ōtautahi’s most exciting emerging artists. From classical roots to dancefloor heat, Chloe has been quietly cooking something special and we couldn’t be more stoked to have her on board.
Music was always in her blood. Growing up playing piano and singing, always deep in the arts, producing crept in during high school and then techno hit and everything made sense. Chloe started DJing in 2023, strictly techno, with Drumcode artists influence, but the sound has been evolving ever since. These days there’s a lot more bass in the mix, drawn to artists like Maara and Carré for what she calls “super beautiful tops and vocals.” It’s a natural progression and it sounds incredible.
The way Chloe talks about inspiration is something we relate to hard “Hearing one sound that just sets off alarm bells in my head, that instant spark of potential.” That’s it. That’s the whole thing. A sample, a pad, an fx hit, something clicks and a whole track unfolds from there. Usually starts with a drum beat and grows outward, following wherever the synths and textures lead.
The new one coming soon as a premiere on Rooster came together exactly like that. “It was the synth that sparked the whole direction.” Floaty but bass heavy, UK dubstep drums underneath, and then a phone ringing sample came along and suddenly the whole concept was there. “I really liked the idea of a voicemail box, the lyrics are inspired by the distance and unavailable nature of it.” Also our ears and souls are blessed to have her own vocals on there too, a human thread running through what she describes as “a lighter taste of bass music”. Something you may see more of as her musical prowess grows. Trust us, this track is worth the wait.
She left us with this and honestly it says it all.
“I’m very grateful for the music community we have in NZ, keep creating, I love the underground 🤍”
Big things in store for this up and coming artist!
ARTIST SPOTLIGHT:
All the way from ferry road, techno bass enthusiast chodeingt0n. This sat, combining the two for some heavy end electro tech - pulsing bottom ends and acidic melodies, all the good stuff.
