Voices for Chicago seniors were loud and clear in Springfield! 🏛️✨ On May 6, DFSS Senior Services Deputy Commissioner Margaret Laraviere joined network leaders from across the state for Older Adult Advocacy Day. The mission? Advocating for a crucial $10 million funding increase for Home-Delivered Meals (HDM) to sustain vital operations for our Chicago seniors. Key Highlights from the Day: 🎤 Deputy Commissioner Laraviere spoke at the Capitol’s Blue Room press conference alongside state leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Kimberly Lightford, Senator Doris Turner, and Assistant Majority Leader Camille Lilly. 💼 We met with legislators and staff to advance our advocacy efforts and share essential constituent resources, including senior employment and volunteer opportunities. 🫱🏽‍🫲🏽 Deputy Commissioner Laraviere connected with @chicagosmayor , who emphasized the importance of HDM services and shares DFSS’s dedication to Chicago’s older adults! Thank you to the Illinois Association for Area Agencies on Aging (I4A) for leading the charge. Together, we are ensuring no senior goes hungry. 💙 #olderadultadvocacyday #homedeliveredmeals #supportseniors #senioradvocacy #chicagoDFSS

Today, a few students had the opportunity to sit at the table with Deputy Commissioner Kathy Cullick from the Mayor’s Office. This was a powerful conversation about girlhood, leadership, public service, and making a space for yourself at the table. Thank you, Deputy Commissioner Cullick, for pouring into our students and reminding them that their voices belong in every room they walk into. #LMSA #Chicago #YoungWomenLead #StudentVoice

A former motel in the 40th ward is now the site of The Haven on Lincoln. This sustainable, trauma-informed non-congregate shelter will provide 37 private rooms to our neighbors experiencing homelessness, along with healing spaces and wraparound support services. DOH was proud to support this adaptive reuse project with a $14M investment. Thank you to each and every partner that made The Haven on Lincoln possible. @ccolife @chifamsupport @gov.chicago @40thward @genslerchicago #affordablehousingmonth #noncongregateshelter #homelessnessprevention

Providing safe and accessible homes to our residents is a fundamental pillar of building a more equitable Chicago. By reviving this space and returning it to the community, we are providing stability while ensuring our most vulnerable neighbors have the resources and the respect they need to feel at home in our city.
