I went 2-0 and Grey went 2-2 at the @chewjitsuopen_ Huntsville tournament.
I had the honor of competing against my friend @theacademyofbjj , who is an incredibly talented and tough black belt and someone I’ve admired and respected for years. I was fortunate to eke out two decisions, but it could have easily gone the other way with one mistake. Jason is a very savvy competitor with quick, sneaky attacks that I had to be very wary of. It was a great challenge and lots of fun! This is such a cool sport where you can build relationships all over the world, try to break each other’s bones on the mats, then hug it out afterwards 🤣
Grey had some tough matches and fought hard. I’m proud of this kid for having the courage to step on the mats. He displayed some excellent Jiu Jitsu in his positional dominance. Proud of how much this kid has grown.
It’s so cool to be able to compete in the same tournament as my son. Jiu Jitsu is a massive part of my life and to be able to share it with my son (and daughter, but she skipped this one) is incredibly special. Jiu Jitsu has changed my life in so many positive ways and I pray it has the same effect on my children. Just minus all the torn ligaments, severed tendons, and surgeries 🤣
What a great experience this weekend. As always I want to credit my wife @emorganb for being the best non-training Jiu Jitsu professional in the world and running the show, the @chewjitsu Open staff for running an incredible tournament, and God for blessing me with the physical and mental abilities to compete at this level at the ripe old age of 41!
Have you ever seen this crazy 2 on 1 attack? I saw @nateorch10p do this and have tried to work in to my game ever since. Was cool to hit it in comp today at the @chewjitsuopen_ thanks to @gijeff85 for putting on a great event!🙏
