Hi Everyone, my name is Cherry Foster-Jaymes and I’m a black trans drag performer and actress in Brooklyn. I’m finally in the process of getting Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS) , however since being a freelance artist, losing my job of 2 years because of change in ownership and juggling every job you can imagine, even with my insurance the costs are staggering.
Facial Feminization Surgery is a goal I’ve had for years but could never imagine it happening but I’m finally ready to ask for something that would functionally change my life. I moved to the U. S. when I was a young child and grew up in Baltimore; I’ve lived in New York for almost 10 years now and this city has brought me infinite joy through community and opportunity. I could not be the woman without the wonderful people around me who remind me it’s okay to ask for help and reach for goals you may think that’s out of reach.
With my insurance coverage the procedure cost will be $20,000 and as I will be out of commission as a performer for up to 6 weeks I’m asking for an additional $5,000.
Though my time has been full of joy, this procedure would not only help me feel closer to myself but also give me a sense of safety going forward as a black trans woman living in New York. The discomfort and degradation that happens daily simply can’t be fostered anymore and it isn’t tenable. This procedure would also increase my chances at job security as well and give me the permission to truly live my life at 100%
I understand there are so many issues that plague the world and our own personal communities right now, and I thank you for taking and reading my story. I hope that if you have means, that you can support me in this endeavor. Thanks again!
