18 years ago the word “content creator” and “short form comedy content” had yet to exist. No
@instagram No Tik Tok. No vine.
@youtube was in its infancy and I saw the vision - the potential for short form content to explode. To put creativity in people’s hands. To publish their own content. People thought I was bat shit as usual “no one will ever watch short form scripted comedy on their computers - what even IS THAT???”
Nevertheless I fully believed that people would watch entertaining content on their computers. Apps were not a thing yet. Phones were not even part of the lexicon yet.
So I created - along with my co writer, director, editor, conspirator
@chelsjaywags Motherhoodlum - a 26 episode series about the Larry David of new moms.
Went about it like any of the other films I’ve created - sparse crew, minimal shot lists and one sound guy (hi
@sound_cinema !!) Editing ourselves. Etc.
So many amazing top notch talented actors jumped in and played along.
Great things did happen - we developed it into a TV pilot for a studio, and met with every top agency who loved the show, the writing, the concept but shook their heads “yah, this idea will never take off” - just stick to traditional scripted half hours for network or then the very new “streaming” - even that - still finding its voice. I even met with - yes - Larry David’s team.
Anyway. I found this clip on my phone with Aria as herself and Shane playing my husband. The series still holds up, almost 20 years later.
Oh yah. Short form content sorta became something, huh?
It’s still up on YouTube somewhere.
