It started like this.
It came from a thought that words are cheap but gas is expensive. You can love someone with all your heart, do your best, and still fall short of caring for them.
It started as this small broken song that I sang over my daughters as a promise that we would always be content with what we have, but that I’d never stop fighting for them.
Then some crazy things happened.
1. The girls started singing it to themselves. If one would wake up with a nightmare, the other would comfort and I could hear them on the baby monitor singing “we’re gonna be ok”
2. My oldest daughter helped finish the chorus. I was singing it in the car, demo working, and I sang “all our lives we’ve been waiting, waiting for something, waiting for nothing, and waiting too long.” Then she chimed in, “If you want we can make it…” so for the first time in her life, she is a songwriter.

For those that are new, we’re Empty Kodiak. We play something like shoegaze / dream pop / synthy alt / dad rock based in Cleveland, Ohio. We’ve been playing together for a long time separately outside of EK and got together formally in 2021 @chazstead@kpstead and @dgorski90 and then took a little hiatus for life and families. Last summer, we were asked to play a music festival in memory of a friend of Chaz’s that had passed away too early. That friend was the first person to ever ask him to play in a band when they were 15. @brandon_jc@devin.tudela , and @ddougl01 jumped in and we got to work. Since then we’ve been writing, practicing, planning and recording as much as we can and @julbiggreen joined along the way. Welcome Eleanor Grace to the Stead family. 🌸
Little lady joined us early Wednesday morning and took the title of biggest baby away from Adeline.
Mom and baby are well but thoughts and prayers are accepted for I will forever be very outnumbered.
