Give Greater DC is here🥳
At CHAW, we believe the arts build community. Every class, performance, exhibition, all of it helps bring people together through creativity.
Whether it’s $5, $10, or $15 every gift is meaningful.

CHAW has been partners with Playtime Project for many years, so being able to give back in this way is incredibly impactful.
Thank you to Irene and all the coordinators and supporters involved in CHAW’s first ever Pratice-A-Thon, this wouldn’t have been possible without you.
And of course, a huge thank you to @playtimeproject for giving us the opportunity to collaborate in such a meaningful way!
Big thanks to our monthly sponsor Don Denton @coldwellbankercapitolhill for your continued support of community building through the arts.
We’re so grateful to have you as part of our community ⭐️

✨ NEW CLASS! ✨
🎞️ Macro Photography 🎞️
with teaching artist Celia Herdic
Saturday, May 9th from 12-4pm
📸REGISTER HERE: /class/3058
This hands-on workshop introduces film photographers to macrophotography using a custom 3D-printed camera attachment—eliminating the need for expensive macro lenses and expanding access to close-up photography.
Designed as an all-level adult class with basic experience recommended, students will learn the fundamentals of macro image-making, including how magnification works, how to focus with the attachment, and how to select appropriate exposure settings for outdoor shooting.
The session begins with a demonstration, slideshow, and assembly of the attachment, followed by guided outdoor experimentation. In the final hour, participants move into the darkroom to develop their black-and-white film together, learning about chemical baths, density, and the fundamentals of film processing. By the end of the workshop, students will leave with developed negatives, practical knowledge of film macrophotography, and a 3D-printed attachment to continue experimenting on their own.
Cameras and darkroom supplies are provided, and students are invited to return during Open Studio sessions to print or scan their work.
Important: Students may use CHAW’s cameras for the class, but please email [email protected] by April 13th if you would like a custom 3D-printed attachment for use with your specific camera.
NOTE: For anyone 18 yrs+. Please contact [email protected] with any questions!
Joy doesn’t always arrive with a flourish.
Sometimes it sneaks in through small, quiet moments: the satisfaction of a finished piece, a shared laugh with a classmate, the focus that settles over a table of makers.
In our community, those little bursts of joy are part of the creative journey we share together. These moments remind us why we return, why we connect, and why art matters.
A little chat with our resident artist @khadija.jahmila 🎨 Khadija will use the next 8 weeks to create a new body of work that continues her exploration in hidden-object discovery, layers of color-blocked composition, and memory in motion.
We look forward to seeing how Khadija transforms our gallery exhibit opening May 23rd!
