We got a CHARIZARD!
We did 6 shows at @adlfringe , opening and giving out cards from Phantasmal Flames at each one as we searched for a Holographic Charizard. At the final show we ran 30mins over because the crowd wouldn't let me leave until we had opened every pack in the box (10 cards per pack, 36 packs per box).
As I was packing down, I discovered there was still one more pack, sitting in my guitar case. I didn't just open it at my next show, but saved it for Rip and Sip. And in that one final pack, the grail, the greatest, the Holographic Charizard!
Thankyou to the venue, guest comedians, and card suppliers:

Plus those involved with the previous 16 shows of phantasmal flames that ended in tragedy (not pulling a Charizard):

And ofcourse, the amazing audiences who put their trust in my crazy ideas.
What a way to end 9 weeks of shows!

Final Adelaide show: March 21st at The Howling Owl
The Adelaide Fringe Festival kicked off last weekend, and while every show offers something special, a small group of 42 Pokémon fans at The Howling Owl were treated to an incredibly rare moment. They attended the Holographic Charizard event, a niche show inspired by one of the most coveted Pokémon cards: the Holographic Charizard. In mint condition, 1st edition versions of this card can fetch hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The show featured humorous stories and plenty of Pokémon-themed jokes and gags, but the real excitement came during the opening of a booster pack. These packs contain a semi-random assortment of 10 cards, with a 1 in 55 chance of pulling a Holographic Charizard, and a 1 in 216 chance of getting the highly sought-after Special Illustration Rare version.
As the performer revealed each card and engaged the crowd with witty commentary, the tension grew as the reveal of the final card slowly approached. At one point, a portion of the final card flashed briefly behind the second to last card, catching the attention of the owners of Card X Collectables, who had sold the booster pack to the performer. They immediately recognized what was unfolding, and the crowd erupted into a frenzy as the performer remained oblivious to the card's significance.
Against all odds, the performer pulled the Special Illustration Rare Holographic Charizard! A member of the audience quickly offered a protective case after Card X Collectables informed everyone that the card had already lost some value—approximately $30—after it was accidentally dropped. However, the performer reassured the audience that its provenance, having been pulled live on stage, was priceless.
The performer encourages everyone to embrace the weird and wonderful at this
year’s Fringe. Who knows? You might just witness a once-in-a-lifetime event yourself!

I did one of these Rip n Sip nights not long ago. What an absolute blast. We open 36 (it actually went much higher than that) packs of Pokemon cards, the audience gets the Pokemon cards, there are comedians, there is pizza, there are unexpected things, there are mini-games - it is an awesome show. Great vibes, lots of fun.
Thanks for having me Tom! @charizardcomedy
Glad to be sharing the night with @petch_comedy@stephen_with__a_ph
Also glad I found a fairly clean radio edit of this track.
I haven't made Charizard content for a while because I've been travelling in Indonesia. Follow @omtomdotcom for that adventure. I'll be back for Rip and sip at the start of June

I tried to record a more professional thank you, but I hated it, soooo I'm uploading this as my 'thank you' video for my @adlfringe grant acquittal.
The Adelaide Fringe Foundation provided $7500 to support my performances of "Holographic Charizard" and "Learning Indonesian with Om Tom" along with an early career mentorship with @lindsaywebbcomedian .
This funding went towards venue hire, marketing, access provisions for the deaf, festival registration, and the mentorship itself.
Thank you to the Adelaide Fringe Foundation donors, and to the 534 people who got tickets to come see @charizardcomedy and @omtomdotcom
We sold out 3 shows, added 3 extra shows, scored 4 and 4.5 star reviews and won Best Emerging Producer at the Fringe Awards!
Last year I attended lots of the industry events the Fringe puts on. At the producers workshop one of the industry leaders said "fringe is the start of a conversation, not the end of it". I was honoured to be a fringe fund recipient, and the support has allowed me to build the experience, capital and confidence to start producing shows throughout the year, not just at fringe time.
Rip and Sip is on in 1 weeks time in Adelaide, link in bio. Already 30% sold!
