Tahtib originated in Ancient Egypt as a military martial art, depicted on Old Kingdom walls as combat training for soldiers. Over millennia, it transitioned into a stylized folk dance central to Sa’idi culture in Upper Egypt. This art form serves as a vital expression of regional identity, symbolizing honor, bravery, and chivalry. Performed at festivals to the sound of the mizmar and tabla, the dance preserves its warrior roots through rhythmic and choreographed stick-fighting.

Knowledge Legacy
The Lawh (لوح), also known as Allo or Walha, is a traditional wooden tablet central to Islamic education across West Africa.
These boards serve as a primary tool for the transmission of sacred knowledge, where students master the Qur’an through the rhythmic art of calligraphy.
Beyond their educational role, they represent a cultural link between Islamic tradition and African material culture.
Mehdi Ben Barka
Leading voice in Morocco’s independence, he later worked to connect liberation movements across Africa, Asia, and Latin America through the Tricontinental Conference organization.
In 1965, he was abducted in Paris and never seen again.
