The most important role of community is to WITNESS. By seeing others, you create space for their truth, talent, and perspective.
For over a decade, I've been in rooms where decisions are made, and felt INVISIBLE. Despite vision and passion, my integrity was feared. The folks in the room could not bear witness to the urgency I spoke of.
Change is not about comfort though.
It's painful.
Things have to tear and break.
Pushing for change nearly broke me.
But...
I never stopped.
I spoke to those that would listen.
I stayed true to what I KNEW was needed.
I walked alone OFTEN.
But, MY community was a WITNESS. They saw ME, my gifts, my commitment, and invested what they could to help along the way. None of this is possible without THEM (you know who you are).
Thank you for seeing me.
For listening.
For caring.

Why did @dawaheals distribute $90k to BIPOC creatives, social workers, teachers, healthcare providers?
Because they are under attack.
And, if we don't put things in place to ensure they have a chance, Austin will be nothing but a playground for the 'rich and entitled.'
This is the not the city I want to live in, and we have real decisions to make about our future.

Through Artspace Immersion, we will work with Austin-based real estate professionals, and a network of arts leaders to create a vision for our next phase.
This work is funded by @themoodyfoundation .
On top of the professional development and training, each org receives a $5,000 planning stipend at the end of the year.

Terence Tagoe (@terence_tagoe ) is the Farm Manager at the @therefugeecollective Farm, a USDA Certified Organic Farm in Elgin, TX that reconnects refugees from traditional farming cultures to land in their new communities.
Born in Ghana, Tagoe has been in Austin for 6 years. When he's not farming, you can can catch him with his daughter, Raja, at a live show, on the tennis court, or in the gym!
