In a no-brainer decision, we are removing our music from Sp*tify, alongside 35+ other bands&artists in the Chicago scene who are pledging to leave as well. You can swipe & read the reasons for doing so (TLDS: war profiteering, ai slop, wage theft, etc.) as well as read Sam Cantor’s (@minormoon ) full open letter that is linked here & in our bio. I urge others in the scene (& scene’s abroad) to think about doing the same if it makes sense for you Sp*tify has never been an integral part of making and sharing music for me. It has never fostered a real scene or community, it doesn’t connect people, there is no life within it. You don’t need the capital ‘i’ Industry in general to make songs and release them and book a DIY tour and go to shows & make friends & experience things for the sake of art and self-discovery, don’t let anyone ever tell you differently 🫵 Our music will remain on most other streaming services for the time-being, so listeners, consider ditching sp*tify & trying something else out. I bought some blank tapes off of an old man named S yesterday who used to own a music store in the city but had to move out many many years ago cuz the rent got too high. He told me that we as people turn “from dust, into inDUSTry.” From natural states of being, into commodity. He said the hippies in his day had it right when they were sitting on sidewalks eating tomatoes & feeling fulfilled just through the company they kept. Everything is coming to a point, we all have blood&dirt on our hands. We are connected to everything, our footsteps are carried by the grass and by the insects for miles and miles, years and years. I love being a part of @chaepter Our newest record Dragon of Shame will come out May 29th. If you didn't see me talk about it already, we have a single out called "Spook the Market". I co-directed and shot the music video which I have shared a few frames from. Look it up on YouTube or find the link in my bio. Shot on my Canon 310XL Super 8 and also rented a Black Magic Pocket Cinema camera. Really pleased with how it turned out Chaepter, John, and I tracked the song live to tape at @jamdek_recording with the help of genius @keif.mp3 We somehow did it in the first take, and afterwards Chaepter added a second guitar part. Mixed by the wizard of sound @michaelmacdonaldofficial More importantly the song is full of anger for our absurd world and reality.
