BEST IN SHOW BABYYYY
Last year at San Diego Comic Con it was my extreme honor to finally realize the dreams of my self and so many others and bring the costumes from THE WIZ to life.it meant I had the opportunity to work with some brilliant artists and cosplayers, so behold the real dreamers of Oz:
@thablackbobross built the entire Tin Man. His costume was METICULOUS in its construction, every can and every facet covered in Ozian references and moments from the movie.
@magicthedragon knitted the sleeves for the scarecrow from scratch—she used visual reference to create his socks out of the perfect fuzzy yarn.
@houseofplagues created the Lion mask, sculpted to look like the great Ted Ross had stepped off the screen.
@kevinallengram hand drew the scarecrows popcorn bucket hat, no small feat.
@tranquil_ashes stepped in and not only KILLED it as Evilline, but also did makeup and touch ups to get everyone on stage.
The cast gave up hours and hours to rehearse, and took home medals and the accolades they deserve:
Dorothy: @ziggzaggerz
Scarecrow: @bendymitchell
Lion: @amazingtcosplay
Tinman: (built and worn by) @thablackbobross

ITS ABOUT TIME: @mrpinskiprops slaying it, as usual, as TIME from Alice Through the Looking glass. One of my favorite things we’ve ever built together, and overall just one of my favorite characters from the movies in general. Igor built the helmet and the shoulders, chainmailled the glove, and I did the softgoods and his epic necklace. Enjoy!

Gale of Waterdeep. One of those quick builds I did for a Halloween client years ago and then got buried in my phone. The whole thing is linen, leather, and hemp cording. I hid closures in it but wanted everything visually to feel as if it needed to be completely hand tied on. The leather work was all done by me and then I ran a blowtorch over it to make it feel worn in and rustic. Overall a pretty fun build.
That time @iamalexiscruz used the #HatterM costume at SDCC and looked cooler in thirty seconds than I ever will in a lifetime 😂

Last night I learned that one of the single greatest humans I’ve ever had the joy of knowing left this world and crossed into another. I met @marius.thomasset.schanke in Santa Fe nearly 15 years ago, and I was instantly charmed by him. Kind, funny, generous, and effortlessly beautiful, he made every space greater by being in it. Marius lived with me for a month in LA while he applied for film work, and during that time we had a few adventures culminating in a trip to comic con (we bought matching Deerstalker hats, his was brown and mine was grey) where he donned a few of my costumes and my one regret is that I do not have enough pictures of him or with him. Marius, I wish I had been in better contact with you. Please forgive me. We chatted off and on for years, getting caught up and always making plans, but I wish we had talked more. We were going to make such amazing films together. And I want you to know that I will carry your smile with me always. Thank you for letting me be a piece of your journey. I love you my friend.
Five years ago @therealve asked me to rebuild Edward Scissorhands to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the film. It was an honor to say the least, but with @yolandatoussieng recreating the hair, and @stevelaporte_facemaker modernizing the facial appliances, this was a slam dunk. We know I love the work of @colleenatwoodofficial and so any chance to go back down that rabbit hole is such a gift. @aaronrivin brought it all together and somehow made all that black leather look comfortable. This costume was made out of scraps, a hundred buckles, and we did it in three days. I still have acid burn marks on my hands from all the super glue! Love to you all, and thanks Ve for the adventures.
