C.Flux Sing

Peace, I'm C-Flux Sing, short for Craig Flux Singleton. I'm an art director, illustrator, graphic designer, and muralist, a good guy. I don't get up here too often, but I want to start sharing bits and pieces of my commission art or commercial art process. All right, so today I'm sharing the first step. What is the first step? The first step is the interview. This is by far the most important part outside of the tangibles and initial contact. Why, you might ask. Very simple. It gives us direction. So for those who don't know, I'm a very perceptive and curious person. And I'm driven by the search for truth. I want to know the really real, especially with people. What’s really under all that presentation? I like deep conversations. That's where you get to the substance of folk. The soul of the person. And I'm fascinated with that. The why’s. The small details that provide insight to the whole puzzle. Puzzle of understanding. So with a client, it's really no different. I want to know the intent. I want to know where the idea’s stem from, what began this mission of yours, and then on top of that, what is it you're offering to your audience? What is it you want your audience to know about you? By the time we get there, we're having an all-out, genuine, just open conversation. I'm discovering things about you. You may discover things about yourself. You're learning things about me, how I perceive what's being shared, what resonates, right? Your reasons may align with my own personal reasons. And I want to support that. In addition to the reasons, It's also the words you're choosing, your tone of voice, the energy you may direct or emit or that you want to direct and emit. All this speaks to me in a visual language of symbols, colors, textures, font styles, etc. It kickstarts my imagination, and I get excited with streamlining abstract concepts. That's evident in most of my work. So this is where it all begins for me. This is step one. So be sure to stay tuned in for part two. Man, this past week and weekend was one of the best work experiences. My brotha @goldigold45 and I had the opportunity to paint another Mural for @sankofaorchard with brotha @duronchavis during @happilynaturalfestival . This was the first time I painted a mural without any music. 😮. The music of nature was beautiful enough. This was also the first time we actually saw the festival in its 22 years of existence. Talk about progress. One of the most amazing things was to see the growth of The Sankofa Orchard since 2021. I mean, what Duron and his team have accomplished over the last 4 years is nothing less than inspiring. We just wanted to keep that energy going with a simple reminder... "Feed The Foundation". Check the previous post as Gold breaks it down. You can take the phrase in many ways but one way I see it is, that which is the foundation of our existence, that empowers us, supports us, inspires us... feed those things. I want to send mad love to my brotha Gold. He celebrated his Bornday this past weekend as well. Which was the first time I actually got to chill with him on his Bornday in a while. Even tho we was working. 😂🤣. The conversations are nothing less than dope and wild at the same time. Love yah G. Shout to our brotha Duron as well for staying locked in with us over the years. Gold created the first Happily Natural Festival image poster and look where we are now... still creating flyness for a movement that has effected hundreds of thousands. Thank you G 🙏🏿. Over the past month, I have had the honor to paint this mural "Old 4th, Forward to Victory" for the community of Old Forth Ward. @nbaf along with @bloombergdotorg , @atlantaoca , @outofhandatl , #ThrivingTogether helped to bring this thing into fruition. I'm grateful to have had this opportunity to create for and contribute to the people of the city. 🙏🏿 To be selected by the community was humbling enough, but to engage with them during the process was further confirmation of this honor. Thank you to my project manager Cienna Minniefield, the good people over at The Darwin, and my assistants @genisisfresh and Amari. TONIGHT :: Cymande plays Variety Playhouse with special guest The Animeros. Tickets available online and at the door. In the early 1970’s in South London, a group of black musicians, who all emigrated to the UK from the Caribbean as children formed Cymande (pronounced sah-man-day). They combined jazz, funk, soul,and Caribbean grooves to create a unique sound of their own; music that was both political and spiritual. Several of their tracks were sampled by golden age hip hop icons like De La Soul, The Fugees, Masta Ace, and Gang Starr. Their music has also been featured in classic films (Spike Lee's Crooklyn, 25th Hour) and skate videos (Transworld's Free Your Mind, Habitat's Mosaic).
