Rockpool Residency: Unseen Worlds
February 17th, 2024 | 10am - 5pm
Gadigal and Birrabirragal
lands, Nielsen Park Vaucluse
Assemblage, 2024, new and reused hessian, organic cotton, jute thread, clay and repurposed steal
Assemblage envisions a dwelling for diverse intertidal ecologies. Rockpools are complex sites which facilitate gatherings among organic entities. Assemblage explores this entanglement through joining and threading textiles together, demonstrating the diverse companionships within intertidal niches. Witnessing rockpools situated within Nielsen Park, informed the work's direction of line and structural form. Biodegradable and repurposed materials are used to investigate ongoing kinships and exchange; the notion of one entity’s existence supporting or hosting another - symbiotic, mutualistic or parasitic. In time, when Assemblage begins to biodegrade, it’s materials will provide beneficial nutrients to micro-organisms continuing an ongoing relationality with the natural world
