Cernamic is a community led pottery studio in Stoke Newington, Deptford and Dalston, founded by ceramic artist Nam Tran with co director Susi Huang. Together they have turned old industrial corners into a small oasis where anyone can try the wheel, play with clay and feel like they belong, whether it is their first taster class or their tenth course. In our new feature, Nam shares how he went from Canary Wharf dreams to running a clay studio, why he cares so much about breaking down gatekeeping in ceramics, and what it means to leave Cernamic “feeling lighter than when you came in”. Week 5 of Clay Lab! This week we had a special guest workshop led by Dr Linda Bloomfield (@lindathepotter ), who introduced our club members to glaze chemistry. The workshop was assisted by volunteers from Cernamic (Feona) and Imperial (Nina & Olive). As always a massive thanks you to @roysocchem and @natsatclub for making our Saturday club possible ✨
