At CEOrt's recent Monthly Dialogue, themed From Policy to Implementation: Unlocking Tanzania's Investment Opportunity, CEOs and policymakers discussed reforms shaping investor facilitation, Special Economic Zones (SEZs), export competitiveness, and market access.
Led by the Director General of @invest_in_tanzania , Mr. Gilead Teri (@terigili ), and moderated by the Founder of Shikana Group, Ms. Amne Suedi (@amnesuedi_official ), the dialogue highlighted challenges; taxation, regulation, infrastructure, customs, immigration, land access, and licensing and reinforced the importance of sustained public-private collaboration to strengthen execution and drive Tanzania's economic transformation.
We extend our sincere appreciation to our sponsor, @heritageinsurance , for their generous support that made this engagement possible.
Global uncertainty is now being felt closer to home, influencing fuel costs, supply chains, investment flows, and the way businesses across Tanzania plan and operate. What happens abroad continues to shape decisions on the ground, making resilience and adaptability more important than ever.
This was the focus of a recent dialogue convened by CEO Roundtable of Tanzania on ‘Managing Risks and Opportunities in Africa: Leading Through Global Uncertainty’. The session brought together business leaders, featuring insights from Benoit Araman, Sebastian Acevedo, Christoforos Stamoulakatos and Zainab Msimbe with moderation by Peter Kasanda. Together, they explored how organisations can respond to global unrest with stronger planning. agility, and smarter risk management.

The CEO Apprenticeship Programme (CAP) continues to demonstrate the collective power of the CEOrt member network. Its growth has been shaped by the continued support of private sector CEOs, who have contributed through nominations mentorship and thought leadership across cohorts.
At its core, CAP was founded on the belief that leadership excellence must be anchored in ethics, responsibility and the ability to build institutions that operate with integrity, a principle reaffirmed by @zuhurasinare , CAP Committee Member and one of the programme’s pioneers. Guided by this vision, CAP has already graduated 90 alumni and continues to develop a strong pipeline of leaders across multiple sectors.
Applications for Cohort 7 are now open!

Through the Nature-Based Solutions Business Innovation Challenge, CEOrt, in partnership with @iucntanzania under the NbS-RESOLVE programme, is building a pipeline of investable green enterprises.
From over 70 applications, 34 were shortlisted, with 12 advancing after a rigorous evaluation by a cross sector panel of judges led by the Country Co-Director, Nature-Based Solutions and Climate Finance Specialist at Axum, @syakaawilliam , Transactional Banking Manager at @stanbicbanktz , @ajkatule , Chief Executive Director at @africapitalinvestment , @burakbuyuksarac , Executive Director of CEOrt, @santinambenson , and Program Officer for the NBS RESOLVE programme at @iucntanzania , Abdulaziz Mkwizu.
The next phase will focus on incubation, capacity building, and investment readiness, connecting these businesses to markets, partnerships, and capital while strengthening the commercial case for climate solutions.
Sustainability is becoming central to how organisations report, manage risk, and create long-term value. Through the Managers’ Sustainability Training Programme (MSTP), CEOrt continues to support businesses in turning ESG requirements into practical action.
Across three cohorts, 52 participants have been trained, with Cohort 3 bringing together 20 leaders from institutions including @grumeti_safari , @shambani_milk , @expagrotradinglimited@davisandshirtlifft@crdbbankplc , @tratanzania , @mwananchi_official , @tanzaniacommercialbank , @khanyifoundationtz , @worldveg_esa and @yaratanzania .
Led by Dr. Neema Kiure, the session focused on applying IFRS S1 & S2 in real business contexts. Contributions from Dr. Eric Sambu and @syakaawilliam explored how global frameworks and nature-based solutions translate into Tanzania’s operating environment.
MSTP is supported by @iucntanzania under the RESOLVE NbS initiative funded by Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD).

Happy International Workers’ Day!
Today, we celebrate the vital contributions of workers across both the private and public sectors, whose efforts continue to drive Tanzania’s economic growth and institutional strength.
Beyond recognition, this moment calls for reflection on the future of our workforce. As Tanzania advances toward its long-term development goals, the conversation must shift from employment alone to capability. We must focus on building a workforce that is adaptive, skilled, and equipped to lead in increasingly complex environments.
“Women are encouraged to apply.”
A familiar line in job adverts, reflecting progress in gender inclusion. But it raises a harder question: where are persons with disabilities in this narrative?
Under the Think Equal, Lead Smart (TELS) programme, CEOrt, Vodacom Tanzania Foundation, and SHIVYAWATA convened a knowledge session on disability-inclusive employment, which brought together HR leaders and key stakeholders and was attended by the Acting Director of the Disability Unit in the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disabilities), Jacob Mwinula.
Despite a strong legal framework, awareness and implementation remain low. Fewer than 1% of organisations are actively aware of, or reporting against, the 3% employment requirement for persons with disabilities. What emerged clearly is a gap between intent and action, driven by what participants described as “inclusion without systems”, where hiring is attempted without the policies, infrastructure, and support needed to sustain it.
The discussion reinforced that PWDs inclusion must move beyond CSR and be treated as a core business priority. For many organisations, this begins with practical steps, assessing workplace accessibility, strengthening internal policies, building awareness, and embedding accountability at the leadership level.
This ongoing engagement is aiming at contributing to a more inclusive operating environment, aligned with Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050, where PWDs can participate meaningfully in economic activity and national development.
Global disruptions are now showing up in Tanzania in rising fuel costs, shifting supply chains, and growing pressure on how businesses plan, price, and operate.
During a recent CEOrt dialogue on “Managing Risks and Opportunities in Africa: Leading Through Global Uncertainty”, a cross-sector panel featuring Managing Director of Oryx Gas Tanzania, Mr. Benoit Araman; IMF Resident Representative for Tanzania, Mr. Sebastian Acevedo; Managing Director of Knauf East Africa, Mr. Christoforos Stamoulakatos; and Ms. Zainab Msimbe, moderated by Managing Partner of Clyde & Co. Africa, Mr. Peter Kasanda, examined how global shifts are shaping business decisions across sectors.
For the private sector, resilience is becoming operational, where the ability to adjust quickly, manage risk actively, and stay competitive under pressure will define long-term growth.

Through our Think Equal, Lead Smart (TELS) programme, in collaboration with @vodacomtanzaniafoundation , we carried out two studies that show how access to finance and digital technology is reshaping livelihoods and influence within households in Dar es Salaam.
The research highlights how VICOBA and mobile money are giving women entrepreneurs greater financial security and a stronger voice, while smartphones are now serving as shops and wallets for many women, youth, and persons with disabilities across the city.
