Busy day across the District — and it was all about our future.
I had the opportunity to visit the @centercitymakerspace , a 20,000-square-foot, high-tech learning hub serving 1,400 students — including many from Ward 8. This space is more than a building. It’s where creativity, critical thinking, and hands-on learning come to life.
When we talk about preparing our young people for tomorrow’s careers, this is what it looks like. Exposure. Innovation. Opportunity.

Young engineers at the Makerspace at Center City used their imagination and constructing skills to build their own cities using arts and crafts supplies . Students learned the process of city planning , and were able to use things they see in their own neighborhoods as inspiration to create their own city. A week of creativity, collaboration, and innovation at the Makerspace at Center City PCS 📦 🪨
During MS Teambuilding, our sixth graders dove into cardboard engineering, where they engaged in a friendly competition of who can build the sturdiest chair. Seventh grade makers also engaged in a claymaking activity where they sculpted their own bowls. Both grades worked in new teams with students from three different campuses, and learned to step outside of their comfort zones. Through hands-on making, they practiced teamwork, open-mindedness, and creativity—key skills that powered their ideas and innovations. #MSTeambuilding #CenterCityMakerspace #StudentInnovation #TeamworkInAction #CreativeLearning

From molding clay to woodworking, podcasting, virtual reality, and sewing, students from across three grade levels at the Center City NoMa Campus and Washington Leadership Academy were dedicated to making, learning, and exploring.
