🦈 Applications for SHARKADEMY 2026 are officially OPEN! 🌊 Want hands-on experience in shark and marine conservation? Sharkademy is the UK’s only shark-specialist training residency for aspiring early-career ocean conservationists, created by MARECO and Celtic Deep. Spend an incredible week in Pembrokeshire learning from marine scientists, conservationists, photographers, filmmakers, and storytellers while gaining practical field experience both on and in the water, including the chance to swim with blue sharks 🦈 Expect: 🌊 Research skills & field methods 📸 Wildlife storytelling workshops 🦈 Talks from industry experts 🤝 Networking & mentorship 💙 A community of like-minded ocean people Sharkademy was designed from the very beginning to create opportunities for those who may not otherwise be able to access these experiences. Sharkademy 2026 applications are going live on May 10th. The deadline to apply is May 31st. We will go over applications in June and hope to let everyone know the outcome by mid-late June. Thank you all for bearing with us as we are a little delayed in getting these out this year. This Wednesday our interns did their first intern swap with @celticdeep , taking them through a day in their life here at Sea Trust. They started off on porpoise survey at Strumble Head in the morning and then working in the Aquarium in the afternoon. Swimming with seals and puffins around Skomer Island, Pembrokeshire was pure magic 🦭🦜 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 We strapped decoy puffins to our heads (yes, really) and floated quietly, waiting. Before long we had real puffins popping up just a few feet away, tilting their heads, staring right at us, circling in closer like little feathered detectives. And the seals? They were just as bold. They’d surface behind us to check us out, then disappear again only to nudge a little closer the next time. There’s something incredible about being in their territory and knowing they are choosing to interact. No rush, no fear, just raw curiosity and unforgettable moments with wild animals that seem just as interested in you as you are in them. Once again, Sharkademy 2025 exceeded all of our expectations! In the words of @hayeswettner - “Put a bunch of shark nerds in a fort and create one of the best weeks I’ve ever had”. It is such a pleasure to bring together early-career marine scientists from all backgrounds in the UK for a week of science, research, filmmaking, photography, communications and digital storytelling for shark conservation. Sharkademy 2025 is officially underway – and Tuesday set the tone for the week in style!
