Our first year getting serious, and we’re so happy with what we’ve achieved. Thanks to
@historicengland Everyday Heritage fund we launched the Capturing Shadows programme to share the history of Central and Eastern European communities in Mansfield, and bring together a new online archive (launching in January 2025, more details coming soon).
We had great fun
@inspireculturenotts Hands on Heritage Day making wycinanki and sharing summer solstice traditions. In June we brought our zine library to
@nottmcityoflit International Youth Day celebration event
@nottmlibraries and shared our early research at
@omhmansfield Heritage Open Day in September.
Our programme was led by capturing shadows with
-a talk by Elysia Louise Heitmar about the cultural lives of CEE migrants in Mansfield throughout the 20th Century
-facilitated a presentation in Mansfield of the University of Nottingham’s exhibition ‘When the war was over: European refugees after 1945’
-screening of ‘Community in Exile’ with introduction by the film maker Leo Jurkiw
- #CookForUkraine event and exhibition raising over £100 for UNICEF UK
-various workshops including creating collage dreamscapes with
@klaraszafranska
In 2025 we’re wrapping up our #EverydayHeritage programme, but first
@nenova.art is helping us make a banner mapping the community. We’ve got plenty more planned so keep an eye out for details, and get in touch if you want to work together
A massive thank you to everyone who’s supported us, attended one of our events, contributed to our programme and partnered with us. See you in the New Year 🫡
