Ánima began as an exploration to find a meeting point between ancestry, craftsmanship, and type design. The sketching process for Ánima was long and complex, involving shape research from different perspectives related to patterns and textures found in both crafts and type.
The idea of “more is more” was always obsessively present at each stage of the process, questioning how much is the right amount of "more" and when it becomes just “unnecessary drama”. How do you sketch to actually test a coherent type system? These questions and the entire exploration became a reflection on the true purpose of a sketch within the design process.
Cecilia del Castillo is a Mexican Type designer and Calligrapher. She has lived and studied type design in Barcelona, Paris, and the Netherlands, her work is deeply rooted in her Mexican heritage and her passion for calligraphy. She draws inspiration from the eclecticism, richness, and contradictions of Mexican culture. #tm2324

I was invited to @letterspace.amsterdam in 2023, during my first year living in Amsterdam, while collaborating with @sabinakipara and just before starting at Typemedia.
It was a special moment of fulfillment and deep learning, one of those moments in life that, in hindsight, turn out to be key, full of growth and with an impact that was hard to see at the time.
I remember it with a lot of love and nostalgia because I was about to experience one of the best and most transformative years of my life living in The Hague and studying at Typemedia. ♥️
Thank you to Sabina and Edgar for this opportunity to showcase my work and everything I’ve learned so far.
It’s very meaningful for me to revisit what has happened over the past three years. ♥️♥️

Feliz, agradecida y honrada de ver mi trabajo junto al de tantas personas talentosas que aman las letras tanto como yo.
Fui invitada a dar una charla a @letterspace.amsterdam en 2023, durante mi primer año viviendo en Ámsterdam, mientras colaboraba con @sabinakipara y justo antes de empezar en Typemedia.
Fue un momento especial de plenitud y mucho aprendizaje, uno de esos momentos en la vida que en retrospectiva, fueron clave, llenos de crecimiento y con un impacto que era difícil de ver en ese momento.
Lo recuerdo con mucho amor y nostalgia, porque estaba a punto de vivir uno de los mejores y más transformadores años de mi vida viviendo en La Haya y estudiando en Typemedia. ✨
Gracias a Sabina y Edgar por esta oportunidad de mostrar mi trabajo y todo lo que he aprendido hasta ahora.

@ceci_dcd es una diseñadora tipográfica y calígrafa mexicana que ha convertido las letras en su principal lenguaje creativo.
Su trabajo se desarrolla entre la caligrafía, el lettering y el diseño tipográfico, explorando cómo cada trazo puede comunicar identidad y emoción.
A través de tipos personalizadas, logotipos y proyectos editoriales, crea soluciones con gran sensibilidad.
Su obra equilibra tradición y contemporaneidad, demostrando que las letras siguen siendo una poderosa herramienta de expresión e identidad.

Documentar es algo que he hecho siempre en mi vida diaria, al principio de manera intuitiva y en los últimos años con mucha más conciencia.
Antes creía que mi obsesión por retenerlo todo era solo un simple síndrome de Diógenes, pero en la práctica de mi trabajo le he encontrado gran valor.
Suelo documentar de todo: mis procesos, mis ideas, conceptos, objetos, comida, nuevos hobbies, hasta a mí misma, mi rostro y mi cuerpo. (Un poquito Deluluuu 🌸🤓)
Documento en diarios, en fotos, en notas, en post its, en servilletas, en vasos, donde me agarre la idea básicamente.

Me gusta ver el paso del tiempo en los objetos y en mi misma, observar la evolución de las ideas y volver a ellas a regocijarme en la nostalgia de lo que pensaba y compararlo con quien soy y cómo pienso ahora.
Cuando hice este proyecto de Revival en TypeMedia se me desbloqueó un siguiente nivel de documentación que me expandió la mente y me encantó porque todos los recursos estaban ahí a mi alcance a unos minutos en tren.
Escribí, fotografié, observé y luego el proceso para mostrarlo lo escribí como un diario.
El diario de Ceci descubriendo el trabajo de Joan Michael Fleischmann y las Tipografías Barrocas. 📕♥️
Este proceso me enseño una nueva manera de abordar los proyectos, y lo profundo e interesante que es diseñar un Revival.
Revival/Revivir – “Traer algo de vuelta a la vida”
Suena a demasiada responsabilidad y complejidad lo que hay detrás de una palabra así. Tienes que respetar su pasado, su historia, pero al mismo tiempo prepararlo para vivir en el presente.
Un desafío cabrón y fascinante solo partiendo de ese concepto.
