🚤 This 6-meter boat was 3D printed in just over 4 days! We stopped by the CEAD booth at JEC World and chatted with Mark Muilwijk about this full-scale vessel produced in collaboration with the Dutch Boat Factory. Printed using CEAD’s HDPro material, the project explores the possibility of fully autonomous boat production, eliminating manual labor through one-shot manufacturing. Could large-scale 3D printing reshape how boats are made?👇

Back from FORMNEXT and full of fresh ideas and excitement! The fair is not only a place to exhibit and showcase innovation, it’s also a space for interesting exchanges. We are very proud that two of our latest productions helped foster these connections. At the @ceadgroup stand, we presented a 3D-printed meeting space containing two benches and a table. All components were manufactured with Polymaker polymers and CEAD extruder, achieving different finishes within an easily assembled system. At the Polymaker stand, we showcased a self-standing panel with an organic geometry that provided privacy for meeting while creating a textured spatial separation. These pieces not only showcased the latest technologies but also addressed functional needs, creating spaces for the conversations that will inspire the next wave of innovation.

Non-planar 3D printing doesn’t layer on top — it follows the surface. In this project, each path was calculated to align with the natural flow of the form. The robotic arm moved across multiple axes, adapting to curves and angles in real time, reducing vibration and achieving seamless continuity across the printed skin. This is possible thanks to CEAD’s extrusion system, where multiple independently controlled heating zones ensure a uniform and progressive melting of the material. It allows each strand to be deposited with high precision, transforming the robotic arm into an extension of the designer’s mind. The result is more than geometry. It’s a material logic where movement, form, and function converge. This level of control isn’t decorative — it’s structural. The orientation of each strand affects bonding, load distribution, and long-term performance. Every angle is intentional. In the construction of the PresentedBy store at Zayed International Airport, each element was printed at full scale — not as a prototype, but as a finished architectural component. The geometry was designed for assembly. Every printed part carried specific requirements: structural integrity, dimensional precision, and seamless integration. Once on site, the pieces aligned without modification, forming a continuous interior where structure and skin are one. Achieving this level of fidelity at scale requires more than just volume — it demands control. Through the extrusion process: temperature, flow, and timing are precisely calibrated, translating the robotic arm’s movement into coherent material logic. The extruder becomes the bridge between design data and physical matter — synchronizing geometry with performance, curve with consistency. Behind the scenes, the code defines the form. But it’s the material behavior — and the ability to shape it in real time — that makes architectural 3D printing viable at this scale. Farglory Group 《BEONE》 3D printing interior facade with recycled plastic. Located on the lower ground floor (B1) of the Farglory International Centre in Taipei’s Xinyi District, this project is built around the design concept of “Play Ground,” bringing together domestic and international art and design teams to collaboratively create with a diverse range of recycled and sustainable materials. Invited by Yulespace, our team jointly designed and produced approximately 20 metres of 3D-printed feature walls. The main entrance is characterised by a vertical line composition, while the VIP room entrance features an organic form inspired by nature, creating a distinct yet cohesive visual experience.

🪸 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝟯𝗗 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 🎥 This beautiful bar, designed by Barrows, was inspired by the organic geometries of coral folds and curves. To capture the print process on the #Flexcube, we set up a timelapse, triggering the camera at a fixed point in the toolpath. The result? The print appears to grow organically, much like coral forming in the ocean 🌊🪸 What do you think-does this feel more like high-tech manufacturing or a nature documentary? How do you translate the fluidity of cascading water into a retail space? For the Presentedby store at the Abu Dhabi Airport, designed by @externalreference , we produced a flowing interior that captures the essence of water. Using non-planar printing, we crafted pieces over 2.5 meters high in our Barcelona facilities. Each element was then seamlessly assembled into an immersive environment for visitors. With 3D printing processes, we’re turning designers' visions into reality, one transformative space at a time. #NonPlanarPrinting #FluidInteriors #AirportRetailDesign #ImmersiveSpaces #ParametricArchitecture #Lamaquina3d #ExternalReference
