What a night at Joyful January Foodie Friday! We were celebrating Stockport getting the Foodie Neighbourhood of the Year Award with all our traders! 🏆 Thank you to everyone who braved the cold and came out in your hoards! We had amazing entertainment from @ellamarchbanksmith @rock_choir and #BlindTigerBand! 🎸 🎤 🎶 The Rock Choir also performed a great set outside @thewhitelionstockport and @theunderbank to a lovely crowd despite the rain.☔️ We also gave our first Friend of Foodie Friday Award to 83-year-old Alan from Offerton who told @pieradiouk how much he loves Foodie Friday and has never missed one in the last two years and says “If you don’t like Foodie Friday, there must be something wrong with you!” Bless you Alan for all your great support of our event. Alan was awarded with a Foodie Friday Feast for himself and his family. We were so honoured that Foodie Friday was a finalist for Best Placemaking Initiative in the global awards for #citynationplace Our team travelled to London and visited @boroughmarket to sample the street food before walking to County Hall along the Embankment. At the awards we met up with our dear friend @foodfanstockpt Esther Morrison who started Foodie Friday when she worked for @stockportcouncil in 2013 and hosted the event for two years before our Community Interest Company Seven Miles Out Arts took over in March 2015. We were up against some groundbreaking placemaking initiatives from across the world and sadly didn’t win but how amazing that Stockport was recognised in such great international company! We’re really proud that our community food and drink event Stockport Foodie Friday has been nominated for Best Placemaking Initiative at the City Nation Place Awards this year alongside Sheffield, the only other UK nomination and inspiring international placemaking stories from Sweden, New Zealand, Canada and the USA. We’ve been fortunate enough to win awards from @mcrfoodfest in 2016 and 2022 including the prestigious Howard and Ruth Award for Outstanding Achievement for the work John and Rosemary have done in Stockport. For the last ten years we have collaborated with local stakeholders to embed Foodie Friday in the social calendar of Stockport and the wider North West. Foodie Friday was originally started by Esther Morrison in May 2013 when she worked for Stockport Council. In March 2015 our organisation Seven Miles Out Arts CIC took over the management of the event and we rebranded it as Stockport Foodie Friday to ensure that any success was reflected upon the town. Working collaboratively with our amazing street food traders, @stockportcouncil , @marketplacemarkets @thestockportmarket Traders and @stockportcounty - with support from local sponsors @orbit_developments , @cdlsoftware , @robinsonsbrewery and our venue supporters @bakersvaults , @angelinnstockport @threadstockport @the_cocked_hat_stockport , @calverts_court and @thegoodrebelstockport , we’ve been able to deliver a safe and successful event that has been a catalyst for the regeneration of Stockport town centre. UNSTOPPABLES 🌊🐚 Rain, hail, wind and finally sunshine ☀️ This week, an incredible team of corporate supporters took on the epic Oggie 8 Challenge in the Welsh mountains to raise funds for Seashell. Over 15 hours of walking, scaling peaks, battling the elements, and pushing themselves to the limit they absolutely smashed it. And despite the aching legs, they finished with a smile and a huge sense of pride. Spending time with people who choose to support @seashelltrustuk who give up their time, energy, and offer determination to help raise vital funds is truly special.
